Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 383Aug 17, 2011 10:28 am It is in the plans. But we didn't know to look out for them. I know it sounds lame, but its the first time we are building. It would have been nice (and part of their duty of care) for someone to point it out, whether it is the sales consultant, CSC, estimator, drafter etc. What to do??? Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 385Aug 17, 2011 8:26 pm That's weird, the fridge shouldn't be sticking out like that. As per our plans the fridge space is in line with the stair case. At electrical I had informed PD that I will be hanging a chandelier near the stair case void. I was just informed that I cannot add any more weight on the roof trusses because it has Not been designed to accommodate a chandelier!!! The display home's roof trusses had been designed to accommodate the additional weight but the standard waldorf roof trusses are not designed to accommodate the weight. Is anyone else hanging light pendants or chandeliers near the stair case voids? I will have to call my CSA tomorrow and ask why I was not informed at electrical or at the contract appointment. Just thought everyone should know there is this problem. Additional weight can lead to bowing of the roof truss. cheers pup Hey pups, Whats the update on this? Has anyone else encountered this problem. We too asked for extra noggin in the stair void for a chandelier. Would be quite upset if it can't be done. Will ask my SS during our walk thru next week but just want to find out if anyone else has this issue and what PD has done... Hi JPZ, Have you meet your SS as yet? I sent off an email to my BC yesterday to ask for any updates, if I don't hear from her by today I'll give her a call tomorrow. will keep you updated cheers pup Waldorf 44 Sales quote: Jan 18th 2011 Tender : Feb 24th 2011 Colour & Electrical: March 9th 2011 Contract: March 24th 2011 Site start: May 5th 2011 http://ourwaldorf44.blogspot.com/ Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 389Aug 19, 2011 1:57 pm tstr1a Hey guys, Quick question, how long does bricking take to build the house and garage, assuming that the brickies are on site every day? Hey Tony, Total time for our bricking was a little less than 4 week... Yours is coming along amazingly! i can't wait to see the changes you have implemented. Here's a snapshot of my plans. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ SS reckons they can re-frame the fridge (take it back to 950) and centre the framing on the double 10-lite doors but we'll have to pay for it (we were warned that PD charges a premium for BVs at this stage of the build). Surely they could have warned us that it would jut out and look hideous... Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 391Aug 19, 2011 5:12 pm Pup, SS did not really give us an answer with regards to the chandelier on the staircase void... He just said that each individual truss is manufactured to withstand a 80kg weight. He said he will go up and have a look once the manhole is cut out. Let me know how you go... What does your electrical plans show? Is it centred on the void or hanging over the stairs? Ours show it being over the stairs. We hadn't even realised its different. We told the consultant we wanted to hang something similiar to the Waldorf display and requested for batten and noggins in the void and that's where she's placed it. SS (now) says they don't do it over the void because of OH&S despite the fact that it is hanging over the void in the Williams Landing display. Ours was over the stairs because the consultant at electricals was unable to drag the icon into the middle of the void. She told us not to worry and said that the electrician would centre it in the void, as it is pretty obvious the placing is not right. Now we are told it will be as the plans. We specfically told her we wanted to hang a chandelier like the Waldorf display at Williams Landing. Not happy... Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 395Aug 23, 2011 7:46 pm Just wanted to provide an update on our roof truss issue. I am happy to say that PD has arranged with the engineers to redesign the roof trusses to accommodate the extra weight for our chandeliers Our BC will provide an update of the max weight the roof trusses can accommodate once the design is completed. Although she did mention that it will take some time. Good thing I am in no rush Sorry to hear about your situation JPZ, you think that you can trust what the consultants say but everything needs to be in writing.
