Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 302Jul 18, 2011 11:15 pm tstr1a Today my SS called to introduce himself. Its a good idea to talk to ur ss before construction to ensure that the correct set of plans are being used. Very good advice Tony. Sometimes even talking to SS before construction starts, some things sneak through. In our case we have since found out that there was an email that went to the wrong person (with the same name) so our electrical plans weren't properly updated and we have just realised that there may potentially be an error with our ducting. An extra duct seems to be put in our kitchen dining area, even though we picked up on this error at contract signing and our cSC clarified it to the draftsperson, i think there might be a boo boo. But all we can say is - communicate, communicate, communicate. We will go back to our CSC and SS to advise that there could potentially be an issue and they'll fix it up no worries. Be polite and courteous about it though. SS reckons tuesday will be the day. Blog is updated with piccies! That's fantastic Mel, congrats!!! Will go and check out your piccies now! Hey! Thanks Mimi! Any news on your end? Hope all is going well! As the final plans were revise four times I thought it would be a good opportunity to see which plans were given to him. Well all I can say is lucky he called. The weather forecasted for the week is meant to be terrible so I'm guessing that not much work will be done as this phase of the build is entirely outdoors. Another rule for our building adventure is to make sure you bring along a pair of gumboots. Walking around the block I was practically dancing in order not to fall in mud. The worst this is when the first step is right in a pile of much and your shoe practically come off your foot when trying to pull it out Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 305Jul 19, 2011 12:38 pm Hi fellow Waldorfians Just want to check with everyone who has their range hood vented externally, did PD install a plastic flue or something else? We requested that our range hood to be vented externally and so a plastic flue has been installed. Not sure if that would do much to keep the smell from escaping and staying in the roof space? I thought that vents are usually metal/aluminum not plastic. any comments would be appreciated. cheers Waldorf 44 Sales quote: Jan 18th 2011 Tender : Feb 24th 2011 Colour & Electrical: March 9th 2011 Contract: March 24th 2011 Site start: May 5th 2011 http://ourwaldorf44.blogspot.com/ Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 306Jul 19, 2011 1:01 pm puppyso Hi fellow Waldorfians Just want to check with everyone who has their range hood vented externally, did PD install a plastic flue or something else? Have it on the list of things to keep an eye out for. Looking forward to feedback as well.... Mine finishes not quite to the wall (maybe they will pull it out more and attach to wal?? i don't know) but i think Puppyso is saying it should be some aluminium tube instead of plastic (the pic below was taken into the storeroom and the white tube that is on the other side of the frame runs about half through the laundry. i can't find the pic that actually shows the location in the laundry. Not sure how far it goes. Actually didn't even see it in coz it was plastered up before we had a chance to see it. But our SS took down a bit of plaster to satisfy us that it is there. There is a joint that is not sealed in our kitchen one but apparently they will check and rectify at fit off. Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 315Jul 19, 2011 4:06 pm Hey MelNRob, Bunnings has red ladies ones too $25 Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 316Jul 19, 2011 4:12 pm Hey Rups, When is your anticipated start date? By memory your land should be titling soon. You must be excited. I will be regularly reading your blog for building updates. I love seeing a home transform from an idea to reality. Best of luck and keep us posted. Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 317Jul 19, 2011 5:15 pm Hey Tony, Land was meant to be June, now back to August. Hopefully all starts by Oct 31st because that is when our price is locked into. We have been watching your start with interest. Rups and I share this account and both comment about the same amount (the better grammar/spelling is Rups). It is funny because we now talk about people on the forums. Example: the other night Rups was on the computer and he yelled out "ohh no Tony's been delayed", and I said "yeah I know", then he said and "Mel has done ......." and I said "which Mel?" lol Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 318Jul 19, 2011 5:31 pm tstr1a Hey Rups, When is your anticipated start date? Works been busy so i haven't had a chance to really get onto the blogs to catch up with everyone status. Just get the snippets on here! I have some reading to catch up on though it seems - have to readup on Tony's mudcakes, check out Mel's ducting, be envious of Puppyso's mega fast progress ( ), and will that land to title for you guys !
