We're having PCI next week. Any tips anyone? Does anyone have a checklist I can go through?
So many things still need to be finished before then, I have a feeling it will be delayed again. We're already 2 months late for handover.
Mel, did you have your appliances installed at handover? My SS said he will install it after handover on the day we move in? Is this common practice? I'm not comfortable handing over the cheque if everything is not in place. I can set up the home alarm once I get the keys and if there is any theft, it will be covered by home insurance anyway.
Hi JPZ,
Good luck for PCI!
Some things to look out for are
- Have a look at things like the door plates and make sure they are screwed in (we had five that weren't and it's just a hassle because they will have to come back to do it. We could do it but it should have been done in the first place.
- make sure that the door latches are facing the right way (usually the rounded part of the latch is facing outwards from the room).
- push down plugs in your basins work.
- tiles don't have lips and get them replaced.
- Check that the painting is consistent.
- cornices are not rough.
- make sure that the doors don't rub on the carpets
With regards to the appliances it is common practice for them to be installed after handover. Our appliances were booked in to be installed on the wednesday the day after our handover but our handover day got rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday. So we had the oven and dishwasher installed on the day of handover. The steam oven wasn't installed until this past tuesday as our cabinetry had to be resized to allow for this. The aircon/heating and hot water services was commissioned the day after. So expect to have tradies through a couple of days after handover.
Don't worry about handing over the cheque with the appliances not installed, it's part of the process. The builder still has a duty of care to complete contract and that means installing everything. I personally think you have nothing to worry about.
Good luck! Show us some pics!
Mel
