Hopefully no issues, sure is moving quick. Will be interesting to see how quickly the bricking is done seeing the varied experiences of the guys on here! Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 5077Sep 17, 2014 3:54 pm Nice KDR. My Waldorf 48 Blog: http://gisbornewillows.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 5078Sep 17, 2014 8:37 pm Ok, so I am a bit of a nerd and have been looking into Home Automation and am blown away with some of the products around. - Door bells with camera's that stream to a device - Door sensors that alert (when door opened or closed) your device, turn on lights, play music etc - Locks which link to your mobile that you can unlock from your mobile - Lights you can dim, change colour, turn on and off from your mobile (or even turn off when you leave your house automatically) - Thermostats that can control your heating/cooling Some of these things aren't available in Aus yet, but man... all they need is a Hub that connects to an Ethernet port and boom, automated home. Google search some of these brands if interested. Doorbot, Revolv, SmartThings, Almond+, Lifx, Hue, Insteon, Nest, Ninja Sphere, Ecobee.... The list goes on. I personally like the Revolv or Ninja Sphere Hubs, Insteon for their Door Sensor, Lifx for their LED globes (highest lumens and Australian), SmartThings for their Open platform. Exciting times! Also, for those who have NAS drives, I'm thinking of getting a Synology DS412Play as it has the ability to act as a Surveillance System (will be purchasing 4 camera's with POE connectivity that stream/record to the Synology system) and does everything else I'm after (download BT's, Transcode Movies, act as personal cloud, File storage for all to access etc). Has anyone got any experience with Synology? Any feedback. My Waldorf 48 Blog: http://gisbornewillows.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 5079Sep 17, 2014 10:13 pm ChrisHeli Jasdan ChrisHeli We are looking at getting a pool in place before we start the build. One site put it at up to $20K savings (no crane needed) when compared to attempting to put a pool in afterwards. Yesterday, we sent to lazy-way pools (lazaway pools) and were utterly unimpressed. The person there could not answer even the simplest of questions (what is the starting cost, how deep are the pools), and to get any idea of cost "we'll have to get one of our design consultants to call you". Um no.... So we're looking at othe options. We are still looking at a pool, relatively close to the house (2-3m ? comments/suggestions welcome) and at the other end (away from the house) wil be the sauna and pool equipment. Has anyone done this and how many issues with PD and the build did they encounter (insurance issues for one come to mind)? Hi guys, you might want to get in touch with 'mummaDJ' from the Homeone forum, though they might not be online so much these days. You can check out their blog here: http://wembley35.blogspot.com.au They had a swimming pool put in right at the beginning of the construction process, so their blog might have a few details about it. Thanks! This really proves the power of the forums! I'd have never have found that post/blog. They have put in a fibreglass pool, but they do not say which type, so I'll contact her to see which brand, and how they feel about it after some time of using it. Hi ChrisHeli, Just noticed your posts about the pool. We were going to put a pool in, make sure you notify PD that you plan on putting one in, to make sure the slab will be strong enough, otherwise you risk your warranty I think but any good pool builder will let you know how close to the house you can go with the pool depending on the footings/line of repose etc. The pool company we had quoted that were affiliated with PD was Laguna Pools, as far as I know they are the only pool company who PD will let on-site to construct the pool at the same time as the house. I was told if you use anyone else it has to be done after handover. We ended up searching for a different pool builder though. The Waldorf in my street had Laguna Pools do their pool and landscaping. Front landscaping looks good - I think there is a pool there but can't tell you much about it as it is in the backyard We met with Laguna and they have a design service for all the landscaping etc. they do make nice pools - I know they did the pool at the old Waldorf display in Point Cook (now sold). We put in a fibreglass pool at our last house, and there is no way it cost 20K just for the crane, can't find my old paperwork but would be maybe a couple of thousand I would guess?. Our entire pool build cost around $40K not including landscaping. Also, make sure you put in depending on what type of pool system extra external power points for the equipment (more amps than standard power point), power for the solar heating, cold water and drain point if you are having a self-levelling system (auto top-up and emptying to maintain ideal water level), and gas point if you were getting a gas heater as well. Hope this is of some assistance. sassid ...building the Emporio with MainVue/Henley BLOG: http://thewaldorfproject.blogspot.com.au/ HOMEONE THREAD : https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75753 Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 5080Sep 18, 2014 2:09 pm Hi All We did put in our pool prior to the house starting. We used Compass Pools. As sassid states, you must let PD know that you plan to do this. They put a clause into the contract around this. PD do not get involved in the pool in anyway. You also need to allow for extra additions for the pool that you will need to add to your Electrical plans. We had to be 3M from the house build. We didn't have to change our slab though in anyway as we were 3M away, not sure what happens if you are closer. Compass Pools to a "sleeper" option on their install. They put in the pool then cover it but leave off all the running equipment. Compass Pools wasn't allowed on site the same time as PD. PD then came on site and built the house. After handover, we then got Compass Pools to come back and "wake up" the pool. At this stage the install all the filters and get the pool clean ready for swimming (hopefully you have some summer heat at this time!!!). We had to add to the electrical plans and extra circuit in the meter box and then allowed a junction point at the corner of the house. We also ensured that to this junction box there was a wire running to the light switch inside near the back door - this is used to turn on pool lights from in the house. We installed a fibreglass pool - full install of this was probably around 35-38K, then additions on top of this - solar heating, sunpod, in-floor cleaning system (this I love - we hardly have to do anything!) My husband also had a friend recommend Laguna Pools. Unfortunately you will have to sit down with the Sales reps and get "the spiel", but at the end of the day, it is worth doing to ensure you make the right decision for you. Just don't sign up on the spot. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12345 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110592 |
