Browse Forums Building A New House Re: BUILDING update 281Jun 12, 2008 12:35 pm yes all good options I think.
I've used my mum's front loader and its a pain in the neck (literally) bending over to pull the washing out. I might see if they can build up the base under the washing machine. That way I don't need to spend the money on the benchtop . As long as the base is stable it should be fine I imagine. I'm thinking of putting my oak credenza in the laundry (on the left hand side wall) which is about 2 metres long and will offer some extra benchspace and storeage. If so I won't need the benchtop over the w/m. I don't really have room for it in the house and we can use it to store the overflow from the house . Re: BUILDING update 282Jun 12, 2008 4:32 pm **Phoenix** Alternatively i've seen podiums that are purposely built to raise the front loaders another 20-30 cms up off the ground...that might be an option too? there is a god . Nothing like my dark garage . Panel lift door is on and they've finished the external painting. Once the s/s rail is up I'll post a pic. Apparently the kitchen will be in tomorrow but I'll have to see it to believe it. NO KITCHEN They have finished the gyprock on the half wall and we can now see the doorway underneath the stairs which is fit for a short dwarf . We stored all our boxes for the HT under the stairs and DH will really enjoy getting in there to change the DVD given he is over 6 ft . Tiling is now due to start next Tuesday. God only knows when the kitchen will be in. The Amerind laminate hasn't even arrived in SA yet (so we were told today ). WHY do builders feel the need to placate us rather than tell the facts. Probably coz the complaints would deafen them. They are getting on with other items but I really want to see my kitchen . So no pics until there is progress. Another bit of bad news is the balcony is leaking slightly in the bedroom so they are ripping up the waterproofing on the balcony and starting it all again. Remember the tradies who were head butting each other in our yard .. well they certainly did some lasting damage to the balcony. Builder tells us we are on target for early July. I wouldn't bet on it . This close to the end is soooooo frustrating. Re: BUILDING update 295Jun 13, 2008 11:10 pm I forgot to add ....
I purchased a nice Venetian mirror for DDs bedroom on sale today, the table we purchased from ebay arrived, we purchased the 500 x 500 pavers (Forward concrete) in a charcoal colour for the driveway and perimeter paving, I contracted an artist to do a few pics on DDs wall, and successfully found some bedside tables for the bedrooms. So all up not an unsuccessful shopping day ... if only the tradies were as efficient . And all this done while working full time, picking up DD from school, organising tea and watching Elizabeth on foxtel . Re: BUILDING update 298Jun 14, 2008 12:29 pm Lol
Wonder woman - such unrealistic expectations placed on us poor women . Oh but I do love to shop . DH is gonna ring the builder and get him to move his butt ... he's worried I'm going to spend his garden budget on household items ... like ALESSI <drool> Re: BUILDING update 299Jun 15, 2008 7:17 pm Some new pics of the completed painted facade (minus balustrade) and staircase.
I think it looks better with the Jasper wrapped around the side of the balcony Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ DH thinks we should have gone for a Jasper panel door but IMO the Dune looks fine Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Staircase is quite good ... very square. But the door under the stairwell is a bit .. ahem short ... I don't want it to stand out so will discuss with SS next week options of disguising the opening.
