Browse Forums Building A New House Re: BUILDING update 461Aug 18, 2008 8:50 pm Hi Dy
I thought you were really happy with the builder but I think you are very wise to not say anything, right before handover. Everyones patience are tested during this time so fingers crossed that you can move into your beautiful new home still on good terms with your builder I really hope everything works out for you, I suppose just focus on the big prize. As I said to a work collegue once 'pick your battles carefully, sometimes you have to walk away... its winning the war that counts' She had no idea what I was talking about Mrs B Re: BUILDING update 462Aug 18, 2008 8:58 pm I use that saying with my husband.....very funny. I have also been told to use it with my son as he gets older. Love it!!!!
There are definately battles with builders........every one of them....it just depends on what front and whos prepared to back down first to keep the peace. Re: BUILDING update 463Aug 18, 2008 9:16 pm Oh Dy I am so sorry
You certainly have shown a lot of restraint not to vent to us all, I too thought everything was going really well with your builder. Wise words from Mrs B. I do hope you have your handover on time and everything is done to your expectations. Re: BUILDING update 465Aug 19, 2008 9:40 am I'm so sorry to hear that you are having probs with the builder Dy. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that handover will take place on the 25th.
I must say that I am not sure I would be able to restrain from venting - kudos to you for keeping your cool. Feel free to vent to your heart's content after handover! Trying hard to find the words without incriminating anyone. Suffice to say the tradies and subbies are not keen to return to the build (through no fault of ours) so we are at a stalemate atm. Hopefully someone turns up on site today. We are angry and disappointed, for a number of reasons, not only because a Monday handover seems xtrmely unlikely at this point. We have progressed with our part of the build which includes the deck (started yesterday), floors, fencing and paving (tomorrow). If the builders tradies come back on site and ruin the deck, floors or paving we will be furious. The hard trades were meant to be finished by now. We can't halt the deck or paving people as they have other ppl booked in around us. Same for the carpet and floors . Re: BUILDING update 467Aug 19, 2008 10:14 am I'm reading between the lines Dy but I think I know what you're getting at.
So disappointing at this stage. I guess there's nothing any of us can say except we are thinking of you and hoping that everything works out. Probably not much help though when you're stuck in your position. We know you'll update as you feel you can, I understand your need for discretion at this time. Try to stay positive. (that sounds so lame doesn't it?) Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I,ve got everything crossed for you and hope that you still make it for the 25th It,s terrible...this should be such a happy and exciting time for you and your family..... As Jo said...try and stay positive Mel Building on 9 acres Re: BUILDING update 471Aug 19, 2008 10:16 pm Dy,
So sorry to hear about your problems with the build at the moment... It must be very frustrating on your part as it's nearing handover date... I could feel your pain... we are at the same stage now and I would feel the same if it happens to us. Hoping that everything gets settled and you get your house on time and with the quality that you deserve. We're all here for you! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: BUILDING update 473Aug 19, 2008 11:00 pm Yes a few turned up for small jobs and left.
We are communicating with the SS and Builder and thats a good thing. Thursday should bring some extra hands on deck with some new contractors. Hopefully. They need to fix the balcony upstairs urgently, as the guy who put in the s/s rail smashed all the newly laid tiles, drilled through the waterproofing and damaged the render. Weather forecast is hail for SA on Thursday so if they don't get the tiles laid we will have water in our bedroom . It's one thing after another. If I went into detail with all the problems I'd send you to sleep . At least they moved the manhole and installed the double shower. I'll feel a lot better when I see the benchtops! Re: BUILDING update 475Aug 20, 2008 7:49 pm DeeElle It's one thing after another. If I went into detail with all the problems I'd send you to sleep . Oh Dy, i hope it all works out and you're in as soon as possible.... We're all thinking of you and hoping it will improve......stay strong.... And you know we wouldn't go to sleep, listening to the problems you're having.....we'd be all ears in fact.... Thats the great thing about this forum, we're all here for each other. Re: BUILDING update 476Aug 20, 2008 10:58 pm Dont tempt me .
Benchtops have been delayed -what a SURPRISE ... Not due now until Monday (kitchen) Wednesday (bathrooms). That means the sinks and electrical won't be done until after then. Floors are now on hold for sanding/polishing. DH reckons we will be aiming for a handover by December 2020 . Harsh words were exchanged today betw SS and I ... something to the effect of "i wash my hands of the build" <my words eek> . Should I focus on the glass is half empty or half full story? Any way you look at it ... the house is empty and half finished. so what is working out ... well the design is good and the walls and floors are straight . And the tradies and subbies ... yeah well not much happening on that front! Where's the scotch (oh yeah I tried that and woke in the morning to a headache AND a half finished build)! Re: BUILDING update 479Aug 21, 2008 8:34 am Dee elle I hope it all gets sorted soon. Can't believe the guy managed to smash the tiles and do so much damage to the balcony. what a dill! ( to put it nicely)
Fingers crossed today brings some good news for a change for you. Re: BUILDING update 480Aug 21, 2008 8:45 am What a shame that as this stage of the built it's falling apart. So sorry to hear of the troubles you are having especially with your SS. Hope they get their act together quickly for you.
