Browse Forums Building A New House Re: BUILDING update 521Sep 01, 2008 10:04 pm Sad to hear about your issues at the moment.
Your build started off quite well... and now issues are popping up prior to handover. I understand your frustration... and by the way, what's your SS doing? he was supposed to supervise the site, right? Good thing you have your parents helping you out! Your only consolation is that your house is going to look beautiful! Re: BUILDING update 522Sep 01, 2008 10:05 pm Oh, such a shame to have all these problems when you least need them. To me your build seemed to be going along quite well. I hope you throw a brick at your builder and SS next time you see them - they deserve it! and you shouldn't have had to clean and paint for the carpets to be laid, your SS should have had that organised better
Just try and look forward to the end and I hope that when you do move in the excitement and satisfaction will out weight all this crap that you've had to deal with over the past week/month. Happy at Home Re: BUILDING update 523Sep 01, 2008 10:08 pm Mrs B Gees Dy...Big Big Big hug for you right now You have no choice but to finish the house yourself. Good on you for being proactive and not wallowing in misery and resentment. You are almost there and all of us are cheering you on Mrs B Thanks Mrs B and others You are completely right. No point wallowing ... it doesn't really get you anywhere except a hangover . Cheers and thanks all.... you are terrific support atm. edit: and the SS was helping us clean up as well so hats off to him for pulling up his sleeves and getting into it. He could have avoided the calls like someone else we know . He is trying to do what he can to help. Re: BUILDING update 524Sep 01, 2008 10:10 pm DeeElle Cheers and thanks all.... you are terrific support atm. That's what we are here for. Now don't forget to throw that brick Happy at Home Re: BUILDING update 525Sep 01, 2008 10:17 pm Dy,
On a serious note, I think you're an inspiration and a sobering reminder. Things go wrong for everybody and most are very minor things in comparison to what you are going through. A lazy SS or a delayed handover or a screwed up contract (like me) while whinge worthy, is absolutely nothing compared to what's going on for you and your family. Your ability to just get on with it and be pro active and just get it done however you have to is a real reminder to us all on how to handle things. The end is in sight, even though it still seems a hell of a log way to go. Crack open a bottle tonight and drink it all! And vent whenever you want, even though we're not always posting, we are listening. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: BUILDING update 526Sep 02, 2008 7:17 am Jeez, what a hard time your having...
You are so good to do what you have, I'd be in tears in the foetal position by now. Your SS helped?? well done to him - about throwing that brick, wouldn't it be unfortunate if the builder happened to walk in front of it when you threw it Paula Re: BUILDING update 527Sep 02, 2008 9:48 pm Hi Everyone
Not sure if it is interesting reading but thought I'd update you on the days events. Thank you Joles ... they are encouraging words - just when we need them! At this point we are very glad for any assistance and after wallowing a bit we are working hard to find a way through this process. One thing we have learned is that we need to deal with our builder sensitively and carefully and support and encourage our SS as much as possible. As much as we'd like to vent at them there is absolutely no point in going there as it will achieve nothing and only encourage ppl to do the least amount possible for you. We had more trades turn up today which was great ... painters, tilers, h/w service, plumber, chippy .... all popped in for various amounts of time to do the work. It is coming together. Even our new neighbour (who is also a HO member popped in to say hello). Hopefully tomorrow we will have a few more things arrive and be finished off. Not much more to do now. Good will is an amazing thing ... it certainly operates very effectively as a medium of exchange in the building industry . Re: BUILDING update 528Sep 02, 2008 9:57 pm The tone is your post tonight is really positive and hopeful. I'm very happy about that.
Sounds like things are coming together the best they can under the circumstances. Your positive attitude has a lot to do with that. The good will works both ways. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: BUILDING update 529Sep 02, 2008 9:59 pm Great to hear that you are no longer that upset...

Re: BUILDING update 532Sep 02, 2008 10:22 pm Re: out new neighbour ...lol he hasn't spoken in HO much ... just sent me a couple of PMs because he came across our blog, recognized the development, and then came into HO. Blogspot proved useful for finding our neighbour and organising fencing .
not sure if he wants me to point him out . Hopefully he will respond on his own. Re: BUILDING update 533Sep 02, 2008 10:37 pm Hi All, I'm the mystery neighbour

Re: BUILDING update 540Sep 05, 2008 6:42 pm The flooring dudes were at the build today sanding and polishing. No more access until Monday . We took some progress shots following sanding, sealing and then first coat. Also some progress shots of landscaping and carpets. Furniture is being delivered on Monday. There will be quite a few trades competing for space on Monday and no doubt it will be a circus .. maybe its time for a shopping trip .
