Browse Forums Building A New House Re: BUILDING update 501Aug 28, 2008 8:48 am Yay! I am so happy for you Dy! The spotted gum staircase is devine!! We had to choose a stain to be a close match to spotted gum and went with teak as it was the one we thought matched best - I hope it looks ok!
Love the deck and the colours around the home, that sparkly splashback looks soo beautiful with all the colours in it under the lights! Beautiful home! My karma ran over your dogma Re: BUILDING update 502Aug 28, 2008 9:42 am Wow, all looks great Dy, love the deck and the sparkly bits in the splashback.
Hope the next handover date comes through for you. Chin up, you are nearly there and it looks fab! Your house looks fabulous! Love the timber stairs. I can't tell the difference between timber clad and solid timber anyway. What you have is beautiful. The deck in the back is great as well. Things can only get better from now. Hope everything goes well at handover Re: BUILDING update 507Aug 28, 2008 12:09 pm Your decking looks fabulous. We will be having spotted gum in our house and we are in the process of choosing timber for our decking. I like your timber decking - what timber is that? You mentioned Batu decking in your post - what is it and where do you buy it? It does look great. braveheart Re: BUILDING update 508Aug 28, 2008 1:08 pm Dy,
I love your decking! Outdoor area is beeeaaauuuutttiiifffuulll!!!!!!! Driveway is really nice too.. same as the stairs, kitchen, the bi-folds... everything looks great! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: BUILDING update 509Aug 28, 2008 2:58 pm It,s all looking fantastic Dy...
You must be so excited about moving in Glad that things are working out ok now Can,t wait to see pics of your kitchen when you,ve chosen your splashback! All the best Mel Building on 9 acres Re: BUILDING update 510Aug 28, 2008 6:21 pm to_do_list Dy....sorry if you've mentioned this before....are the pavers colored concrete or......[insert here]....? reconstituted stone ... otherwise known as concrete with some marble chips thrown in . Charcoal colour goes throughout the concrete - $4.2K supply (500 x 500 x 50) and 4K to lay . DH also made sure he painted the slab with waterproofing prior to paving (some of the 12 month old houses around here already have salt damage on the brickwork/ render). We paved the entire house perimeter (recommended by engineers). Braveheart ... Batu decking is from Malaysia - we paid around $4.95 per length and purchased it from Planet Timber in SA. All up wood was around 1.8K, undercarriage 2.2K and laying 2.2K for approx 40 m2. We applied 2 coats of natural decking oil (Feast and Watson). Fencing contractors agreed to make up a steel frame for our side gate for $350 which DH will clad in left over Batu. DH might try and fabricate his own Paula.... the silver splashback is still running around in my head arguing with the black one. I hope we've made the right choice going with black . Today we started landscaping ... purchased some waterwise plants and polished black river pebbles to spread around the stepping stones on eastern side. Bought 10 x 15kg bags only to realise they covered about a third of the area needed. Back to landscaping place tommorow. Would have been cheaper to pave the entire area but it does look nice. Lots of houses around here are planting amongst riverstones but landscaper told us today it was not a good idea for plants (heat trap). Dunno about this but he might be onto something. Thank you all for your great advice and best wishes. Crossed fingers for Tuesday. Re: BUILDING update 511Aug 28, 2008 6:25 pm Good on you with sticking with your gut Dy - I think the black will look spectacular - all your other decisions have been great - this will too
Glad to hear you have started on the garden, look forward to seeing it! Not long now My karma ran over your dogma Re: BUILDING update 512Aug 28, 2008 8:16 pm Well done DeeElle it all looks very gorgeous! The black splashback is going to look fantastic.
Your decking matches your floorboards well - I had to look twice as I thought it was the same flooring going from inside to out - looks very 'seamless'. I love the pic of the decking looking back on to the house with the Dune roof and light coloured render etc - very beachy. I love your house. Re: BUILDING update 513Aug 31, 2008 6:14 pm Plumbing is 95% finished (yay we having running water), sinks are installed, and the electrician was on site some of the weekend finishing the downlights, powerpoints, switches and feature lights. He should be finished by Tuesday am. Of course we still have the balcony that needs to be fixed (small amount of tiling), minor carpentry, appliances, flyscreens and probably a full day of painting. All before handover on Tuesday .
We are double checking every item to ensure it is correct prior to handover (particularly since we've found problems with the electrical plan and supply of incorrect materials). How frustrating that we have to pay so much attention at this stage of the build, but it is slowly moving along. Re: BUILDING update 516Sep 01, 2008 9:55 pm I received a phone call this morning from the carpet installer telling me they were arriving tomorrow to install the carpets as per builders instructions, and they wouldn't be able to come back for 3 weeks. We knew the site wasn't ready - tried phoning the builder who wouldn't answer his phone. The SS spoke to us and couldn't give any help either.
So we had to clean out the rooms and paint the skirting boards that had been missed by the painter. The electrician was on site and lets say he was venting non stop - apparently he returned to site because he wanted to help us out. Our parents arrived to help so 5 people spent 8 hours cleaning the house which was filled with all sorts of building crap. It was a terrible mess. IMO if a site is filthy it is a direct reflection on the lack of site supervision. Anyhow after seeing how badly mistreated the site has been we got to the bottom of the mess and now the house is looking pretty good. Wish there was someone I could throw something at but as it is only those closest to me that are available I have no other recourse but to get on with trying to fix the mess. Tomorrow we have a few trades coming through fixing up stuff. The painter is APPARENTLY arriving on the same day that our floors are being sanded and polished. Of course we don't want him there but are unwilling to send him away as we probably won't see him again for a month. It is an incredibly disorganized mess. Through all this we are haphazardly finding our way to the finish line ... which was of course meant to be tomorrow but when one can't locate their builder it is hard to pin down the EXACT date we will have handover. The SS told me today that we would have handover ... in the builders words 'when we get it' . I shall be ecstatic to see the back of end of this ********** believe me . Okay vent over ... Re: BUILDING update 517Sep 01, 2008 10:00 pm Oh Dy, I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. I would be infuriated as well handover 'when you get it' WTF. At least there is sone movement towards the finish, hang in there it is a beautiful home and the nightmare will be over soon! Re: BUILDING update 518Sep 01, 2008 10:00 pm I'm sorry its all crazy for you guys at the moment Dy - it must be incredibly frustrating and upsetting!!
I'm glad you all got the house tidy ready for the carpet - but really it shouldn't have been your responsibility....Hopefully the carpet guys do a great job I'm can't believe how your builder is treating you and your home - terrible!! I really hope things go on the up from here My karma ran over your dogma Re: BUILDING update 519Sep 01, 2008 10:01 pm Gees Dy...Big Big Big hug for you right now
You have no choice but to finish the house yourself. Good on you for being proactive and not wallowing in misery and resentment. You are almost there and all of us are cheering you on Keep going, you are almost there and venting is always allowed Mrs B Re: BUILDING update 520Sep 01, 2008 10:02 pm So sorry you are going through all this now DeeElle. THis should be the most exciting and happy time of your build, not the most frustrating and stressful. Nice of the electrician to come by and finish off, even if he was venting the whole time Good luck with the next few days... keep remembering your sense of humour it will get you through go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110853 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11148 |
