Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 19, 2007 11:28 pm We went to our block tonight and surprise surprise ... they have scraped the block.
A quick phone call to the builder and he tells us the tradies are working over Xmas due to a backlog of work. Our foundation is due to be poured next week. Yippee... photos posted soon. Re: BUILDING update 2Dec 19, 2007 11:30 pm Fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!!....wooo hooo, now keep those pics coming won't you!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait to see how it looks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: BUILDING update 3Dec 19, 2007 11:49 pm the site footprint looks bigger than we expected but I have heard that once the slab is poured it looks smaller.
We'll just have to wait and see how it progresses!! We still haven't settled on the roof colour and the builder reckons if we haven't chosen by end of week he will chose it himself. Current favourite is CB Woodland Grey with brushed silver aluminium windows. External colours = Dulux porcelein figurines and Toffee fingers. But we have decided on the carpet Re: BUILDING update 4Dec 21, 2007 5:41 pm progress photos on Wednesday and again yesterday.

Good luck with it all - but I bet it;s tad damper than that today Cheers Steve lol - yes it was just a tad wet today. They were going to lay the reo and plumbing today, but due to the stormy weather it has been delayed. Slab was due to be poured on Monday - suspect this might be delayed as well. Oh well the farmers will be happy Re: BUILDING update 9Jan 01, 2008 2:56 pm We still have water sitting in the trenches of our Class H-D soil from last week's rain! So no site work has occurred despite the hot weather and promises made by builder to work over Xmas.
Looking forward to the New Year and to seeing some progress on the block. If the soil every dries out Although the heavy rain and subsequent heat wave has taught us a few things about the soil i.e. extra drainage and soil improvements will definitely be needed. Will keep you posted with photos when there has been some work on the site. Re: BUILDING update 10Jan 08, 2008 9:05 pm Plumbing was finished today and electrician should be there tomorrow. We are on schedule for the slab on Friday ... fingers crossed. I'll post some pics tommorow.
The plumber told us he had to use a jackhammer to channel out for the pipes as the soil is so hard I think we will start laying gypsum and compost to the garden areas so the soil is ready for planting when we move in. Re: BUILDING update 11Jan 08, 2008 9:51 pm Wooo Hoo we're at the same stage as you DeeElle, our plumbing was finished today as well and we are expecting the meter in tomorrow and the preparation of the slab as well... our timeline for the Concreter is that they commence on the 10th!!!!
Make sure you post some pics for us to see???? It's very exciting isn't it!!!! all the best I hope it all goes well for you Re: BUILDING update 13Jan 10, 2008 1:20 pm Thanks for the support
The building process is like watching paint dry ... went to the block today and there has been little activity for the last few days... do you think it might be due to the 41 degree temps . It is such a rollercoaster ride .. one minute we are like kids in a candy shop watching the build, and the next minute we are glum as there is little progress. Adelaide temperature has been crazy ... one minute it is bucketing rain then next minute we are having a heat wave. Both are unsuitable for building and progress .... damn that weather We took a week off work to watch the foundation being poured and what happens ..... NOTHING. So here are some pics of the block ... as it was on Tuesday 8th Jan. Do I sound impatient Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and our back yard ... 10 x 14 m .... one day!! Not that big but then that was the idea. We have a park two doors up which should satisfy the little tike who loves playing on the playground swings. She leaves her swings in the backyard to gather spiders and rust. Also good for growing long grass around the poles!! LOL...
Only joking.....but seriously they could start work early and finish say mid-morning to get the job done if they really wanted to.....not rocket science.... Hopefully they are back on track soon.... Dont encourage me Phoe! I'll be on the phone in the morning giving them curry for being slackers VJ the house is about 290 sqm - not huge but we don't have a massive upper story. Tomorrow is another day! The builder says the slab will be poured on MONDAY - this would be what .... the fourth pour date we have been given Re: BUILDING update 18Jan 12, 2008 6:36 pm Hubby went to the block today and saw they are installing the reo. Builder has confirmed they will pour the slab on Monday 14th Jan. Lets hope this time he is right.
We have also worked through our final selections (believe it or not ) with the builder: Selections CB Dune for roof, panel lift door, gutters, fascia Silver aluminium windows Dulux fudge external render + mocha magic Hog Bristle internal walls Murray River front door and glass splashback (thanks again Michelle) Kitchen cupboards are polytech Cafe Cream and Mountain Pepper and CS Ice Snow benchtop Bathrooms are all white laminex cupboards (polytech) and ginger CS benchtops Bathroom tiles ... don't have a pic but will get a sample and post on our blog. White rectified on the walls and stone grey 400 x 400 rectified on the floors. Extras We added a couple of whirly birds for the roof, organised wiring for the surround sound and patio speakers, and 2 access points to the roof space (all thrown in by builder). Also added an extra exhaust fan for the ensuite above shower (as well as the IXL) to reduce steam. Selected our carpet in line with tiles and colour scheme - Quest twist 100% wool (thanks Ash) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So now we can return to work on Monday knowing we made some progress on our week off from work!! So far the carpet selection was the most challenging Not looking forward to curtains which I have never found easy in the past. Re: BUILDING update 19Jan 12, 2008 9:15 pm Hi DeeElle,
Your slab looks different from ours (waffle) and Phoenix. Do you know what it's called ? Just wondering what's the advantages and disadvantages of using different types of slabs? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: BUILDING update 20Jan 12, 2008 9:26 pm VJ Hi DeeElle, Your slab looks different from ours (waffle) and Phoenix. Do you know what it's called ? Just wondering what's the advantages and disadvantages of using different types of slabs? VJ It is 100 ml thick (above ground) and probably 800mm-1 metre below ground. It's a raft slab. Don't know the benefits/limitations of this type of slab other than it is a common slab design for reactive soils in Adelaide; particularly in our development. My husband tells me that in a reactive soil you need to put plastic down to protect the slab as the soil retains so much water. go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110566 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11035 |
