Take lots of deep breaths and keep imagining your lovely home and what it will be like when finished. Re: BUILDING update 490Aug 26, 2008 12:32 pm Hi Everyone
Thought I'd give you a quick update from my archaic dial-up access at the parents . The granite benchtops went in yesterday and OMG they are simply beautiful. Big thanks to Apex Glass (should I avoid advertising on HO ) who gave us the best advice ever. The 30mm x 900mm were around the same price as Ceasarstone and IMO look absolutely gorgeous. I'll post pics later in the week. Deck is finished (wow factor ++) and our staircase is being clad today in the spotted gum hardwood. We STILL haven't chosen the splashback . Can't decide between platinuum, black and red. Just a little bit of difference there. As I am the eternal optimist I have decided to ignore the difficulties we are having and focus on the positives i.e. the build is NEARLY finished. It's going at a snails pace but we are getting ahead with our paving, decking, flooring etc and hoping for the best. I'll post pics once I find the camera . Cheers Re: BUILDING update 491Aug 26, 2008 1:09 pm hey Dy,
Thats some good news at least! heres to smooth sailing til the end Re: BUILDING update 496Aug 26, 2008 6:40 pm Sounds wonderful Dy, so glad things are moving forward. Being optimistic will always help...Good on you!
Can't wait to see the pictures, i'm sure its going to look stunning!!! Either of the three colours for the splashback sound gorgeous, but if you can post samples, maybe we can ask one of the members to do a bit of work behind the scenes and show you what it will look like? Then you can make a decision a little more easily perhaps? Hey we're not too fussy, if you can't find the camera, just use a mobile phone!!!! Re: BUILDING update 497Aug 28, 2008 12:14 am Last stages of the build have been happening for a while now. We have our third handover date for next Tuesday. We have access to the property and house which is a good thing so have finished decking, paving and will start on garden tomorrow..
Here are some of our latest pics. Benchtops in wet areas went in tonight and PV Cells went onto second storey roof today. All that is left is plumbing and fitting of the sinks, some second fix electrical, some tiling on the balcony and tidy up of painting. It could all be achieved in a couple of days but we'll wait and see how it goes. Paving finished today and looks fabulous. We used the extra pavers around the deck to keep it as dry as possible. Also got the pavers to level parts of the rear yard and create stepping stones with the same large format pavers. looking out from the family room (where DH is setting up the surround sound). Nice for hot nights sitting on the patio watching a great DVD with good friends ... oh I can't wait! DH is creating a simple water feature between planting. We've also paved between the deck and garage with two rows of stepping stones and will put down some river pebbles to support the large potted kentias. Its also where the clothes line will go. I like the idea of stepping stones and river pebbles or mondo grass. It breaks up all the paving and decking and creates another texture for the back yard. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: BUILDING update 499Aug 28, 2008 12:41 am I remember Ladyice or Mek (from memory) asking if you could tell the difference between a solid timber staircase and timber clad.
We're very happy with our timber clad staircase but then we haven't looked at a solid timber one for a while. The layers used straight length timbers on ours, which cost a bit more but still significantly less than a solid timber staircase. Around 3K for timber clad in spotted gum (12 mm). I'll post some pics once it has been finished. If anyone wants a recommendation on the layers PM us and we'll get back to you. We've had timber laid before but these guys really are great. Next time we build (I can't believe I just said that) we might do an owner/builder job as we have learned so much through this process and got onto some great trades. You sure do get to know who does a good job compared to those who just go into the house to get the job done. And I have a new appreciation for the guys who have worked on our house ... they really do <MOSTLY> take pride in their work. All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern.
