Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 28, 2011 9:14 pm Hey there, I googled other peoples forums and thought it sounded like a good idea We are currently building at Freeling with AV Jennings We are building the Piazza 250 with a couple of alterations. So far I have found AV so easy to deal with. Looking at other peoples experiences with them I was very put off but I guess we can only go with our own experience. We are at the frame stage at the moment. The quality of the slab is great. The carpenters have said how impressed they are with it If there is anyone else out there who have or are building with AV let me know your thought, and anyone out at Freeling say hi Will update with more soon Nessa Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 2Feb 28, 2011 9:29 pm The Estate facade- we are having this with black tiled roof, Woodland Grey Panel LIft door, Woodland grey facia, Slightly render & Red front door Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is where it is at as of the 27/2/11 We will be back out there tomorrow night and Thursday night. You choose all these colours and just have to hope for the best. In the kitchen we went with Polar White cupboards in silk finish, starlight benchtops in diamond gloss and a signal red glass splashback. In the bathroom and ensuite the cupboards are Lustroud elm with a diamond gloss Venitian Marble top. We chose Lime Stone Bone gloss tiles for all the wet areas with 2 rows of Luxe Mocha freeze tiles running vertical in the back of both showers. The walls are Jennings New White apart from in the bathroom & ensuite which are Scallopini. What are anyone elses experiences?? We went to the house yesterday and majority of the frame is up, the termimesh has gone down and the brickies have been there setting up!YAY! Im going to try stay away until Tuesday but knowing us we will be out there Monday after work Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 7Mar 06, 2011 10:46 am Hi Nessa, I just found your thread. Looks like your builder has flown through the framing stage! Sounds like it's worth your while making the trip to Freeling with all the progress they're making. It's so hard to pick the colours. There's not really any advice you get, you're just left to do it all yourself. And we're not colour experts so it is a bit of 'hope for the best'. I really struggled with the exterior colours. I noticed you chose Jennings New White for the walls - is that just white? If so, did you have to have an extra coat of paint (ie. 3 coats)? Hey Theresa, Yes they are flying through Before selections we had picked Designer White but the selections lady talked us out of it, First of all because unless you see it with its origin colours you have no idea of how much it is a shade of pink, and also she told us to pick the Jennings New White because you only need the 2 coats of it to cover and most other whites you need 3? I dont know how much of this is true but we dont know any different. And I know exactly what you mean about the exterior colours! Im still very worried about them Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 9Mar 06, 2011 9:05 pm ness'n'troy Theresa Hi Nessa, I just found your thread. Im still very worried about them That's great that you managed to get a 'white' that you only need 2 coats with. My builder tried to talk me out of having Wattyl Oxford White, which was the only white in their range because of the same reason - they would have to do 3 coats. It was only brought to my attention at the final builders interview so I didn't want to change the colour at such a late stage because I knew I'd doubt my new choice. So I stuck with it but for 3 coats they're charging me $2500! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 10Mar 06, 2011 9:29 pm Theresa ness'n'troy Theresa So I stuck with it but for 3 coats they're charging me $2500! OMG $2500!!!!!!! Thats unbelievable!!!! They really get their money where they can!!! They should have more than one shade of white! And why cant they make the paint so it doesnt need the 3 coats!!! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 11Mar 07, 2011 8:46 am Colour selections are difficult. I didn't relax about any of ours until I actually saw them in the house. I would have loved a red glass splashback. I might have to change ours one day, or just build another house contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 12Mar 10, 2011 7:48 pm So we went and had a picnic at our house tonight lol It was nice. We set up where the dining table will be The brickies have started, they have done majority of the garage wall and the theatre. Half the windows are in and the gutters and facia are up. So good to see so much being done!! Especially with the weather we have been having! Oh and the plumber has been in and done the external wall work. I so hope they build this quicker than the 26 weeks! We are off to Wally World this weekend so wont be back to see progress until Tuesday. Have a great long weekend everyone!!! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 13Mar 10, 2011 10:18 pm We have had lots of picnics at our block!!! Great idea!!! Rebecca Custom Build with Kersbrook Constructions - SA https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37762 Current Status: Handover on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 14Mar 21, 2011 6:20 pm Well I knew it was all going too smoothly!!! Bricks going up, roof going on....then my Dad came to check out the progress. I hate to say all I saw when I looked at the house was wow look at my pretty bricks! The way the bricks have been laid is atrocious!!!! First of all on the side of the garage wall there is about a 1m high by 5m long strip of the wrong colour mortar! The brickies watered the mortar down too much and not only does it look **** but you can scratch it away with a key!!! The bricks around the back sliding doors havent been laid flush against the doors. There are gaps the whole way down ranging from about 3mm to 5mm. The bricks are all over the place. Some are straight, some lean down to the left, some to the right. There are random bricks poking out in different places. And if all that isnt enough the side wall of our back living room leans 5mm towards the house at the top!! THEY CANT EVEN LAY THEM STRAIGHT!!!!!! We are now awaiting on hearing back from the supervisor to see what he thinks and what they are going to do about it all. Its just so annoying!! Its the most money we are ever going to spend on something and I dont think its asking too much for it to be done right!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!! On a good note I love our back sliding doors they are bigger than I remember! and the roof is looking great, Hopefully the get their **** together and do something about the situation fast so we can move on! We just want to be there NOW! Hope everyone else is progressing well!! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 15Mar 21, 2011 8:09 pm Sounds like they sent the apprentice to do the work!! Thank goodness your dad checked it out before it got too far down the track. Most annoying though! I hope it gets sorted out quickly too. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 16Mar 22, 2011 9:18 pm Oh, that's awful about the bricks. I can't believe they could be so bad. I hope they fix it up...pronto! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 17Mar 23, 2011 9:15 am Sorry to hear about your bricks. Some people are unlucky and get terrible brickies. Thank god dad came out and had a look. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 18Mar 23, 2011 9:24 am +1 - sorry to hear you are having trouble with your brickies - hopefully you can get it sorted out and made good! We are just at framing stage so we have lots to look forward to and things to check no doubt! It's true - you do need someone independent to have a look though. Good luck with the rest of it - will enjoy following your thread. For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 19Mar 23, 2011 7:34 pm Thanks everyone Well im am now one of those people that hates their builder! I finally got through to our customer service guy (with AV Jennings you arent allowed to have contact with your site supervisor) He tells me he is about to go into a meeting regarding our issues and he will call me in 30 mins. 4 hours later I finally get through to him and he basically tells me we are over reacting and the only thing they agree with is that the bricks arent laid flush with the sliding doors. That the massive patch of wrong colour mortar will be ok after they pressure wash it!!! WHAT THE HELL!!! The mortar is supposed to be grey and they think pressure washing white mortar will make it match???!!!! And when I ask about the bricks that havent been laid straight and jutting out he tells me the supervisor has been there and he cant see anything wrong with it. And the wall that is leaning in, he tells me we used the spirit level wrong??? HOW THE HELL CAN YOU USE A SPIRIT LEVEL WRONG???? So my brother the brickie has no idea how to use a spirit level???? Obviously he knows how to use one better than their current brickies!!!! ARGHHHHH!! He made me sooooo mad!! He isnt the one spending $245,000 on a house!!!! How would they feel if this was their house!!!?? My mother in law has paid her deposit for her house with AV Jennings and if they dont do something to rectify this she said she wont be signing her contract. So its not just us they are upsetting, they are losing themselves business! I have no idea where to go from here. If anyone has delt with something like this before and know what I should do I would love to hear it. This has just ruined what up until this week was a great moment in our lives! Now I feel like I hate this house! Re: Our Dream Home at Freeling 20Mar 24, 2011 8:08 am That's shocking! Perhaps it's time to get an inspector in - it will cost you money but if the work is defective they will have to fix it. Why don't you call the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs in the first instance and explain what has happened and ask their advice? Good luck!
