Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 28, 2011 8:56 pm Hello, So we've been told we will need a retaining wall on our land. It is 16.85 meters wide. Generally how far away does your property need to be away from the wall? The house I wanted to build is 16 meters wide and I've been told no this won't work as it will be too close to the wall. So if this is true does that mean I will have to look at narrower homes? 14-15 meters wide? Kinda had my heart set on a wider home! Thanks! Have no idea on the house being close to the wall or a two story home. Probably best to talk with the builder as they will know the standards. Re: Retaining Walls 3Mar 01, 2011 4:28 am It depends on two things If you want to keep costs down and How high is the retaining wall As Idunu says it is possible to build right on the wall location, it just costs more. We will have a 1200mm high double brick+cavity filled + steel bar wall in the whole length f the garage wall on the boundary. behind that the living areas are set off the boundary by 3.Xmt You could have a design like this with a return of 1.2mt and still have a door with access and be far enough off the boundary depending on council regs. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You should be able to have a brick retaining wall as part of the house on the boundary so long as i is not a habitable room. This means no bedrooms, living areas or kitchen. Not sure about bathrooms or laundry, but it can def be a garage wall. Also you should find out the regulations as to the other setbacks required in your council area. You may not have been able to have the width you wanted anyway (dependent on land size obviously) Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6062 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11117 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11768 |
