Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 19, 2007 11:10 am Ok, so I'm a little confused. When discussing the size of your house with others do you talk in square metres or squares? What's the difference?
My house is going to be 269sm. Can someone please enlighten me as to how many squares that is. When you see houses that say for example, Lakewood 28 - is the 28 referring to squares or sqauremetres. Thanks Nicole Re: House measure...Square metres or Squares? 2Dec 19, 2007 11:15 am 1 square = 10 foot by 10 foot
1 square approximately 9 sqm (google for exact) so 269sqm approx 29 to 30 Squares Why do we still use these archaic units??? Re: House measure...Square metres or Squares? 3Dec 19, 2007 11:17 am Or if you would any exact measurement conversions , you can always go here......

I guess that is why people prefer using that term.

Re: House measure...Square metres or Squares? 10Dec 19, 2007 12:20 pm **Phoenix** Who measures or what is measured using that calculation??? Nothing...!! A chain is 20.1168 meters or 66 feet! You could park your car comfortably in a Lakewood 28 if it was square metres....and that's about it. Are you saying it's small or something. Ummmm my house isn't much bigger. Some of us can't afford the grand ol' 42 squares Re: House measure...Square metres or Squares? 13Dec 19, 2007 12:38 pm And when you go boating - beware of the chart that show fathoms or metres.
Because there are six feet to a fathom (1. 828 meters to be exact) but there are 3 feet to metre (3.28 feet to be exact) So if your boat draws 2.2 meters and you thinks it's a fathoms chart and it's really metres chart. Well that makes big difference if you think you can get into Port Fairy river on a low tide And back tothe archaic hosue measurements - yep M2 or Squares is the common size for a house. And blocks of land used to be measured by chains = acres. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_(unit) Steve Re: House measure...Square metres or Squares? 14Dec 19, 2007 12:54 pm wantingahouse Quote: You could park your car comfortably in a Lakewood 28 if it was square metres....and that's about it. When my builder told me some measurement in foot and feet, i asked him to translate it meter and cm.
I thought Australia has adopt the metric system...
