Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 20, 2011 9:03 am I'm building a new house on a new estate and the land vendor provided a soil test report that I don't fully understand that appears to recommend a Class A slab. The builder has included a Class P (problem ?) slab at extra cost in his price claiming there is more fall and more fill than expected. Who's opinion should I accept in this matter ? Re: Slab classification 2Feb 20, 2011 10:58 am Without seeing the full reports its hard to be accurate however the initial report was probably the result of an evaluation of the soil itself. The fact that to level the site tobuild the house you want means that there is going to be considerable amount of fill. This will mean that the ground conditions will change from one of the house to the other. This could be the reson for the change in classification. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Do you know if there is any way I can be sure that the builder has supplied a P class rather than an A Class slab ? Do they look any different ? Re: Slab classification 4Feb 20, 2011 5:07 pm Yes the various designs will be diferent. The slab design, and any piers/piles that may be required will be detailed on the contract drawings and be certified by an engineer as to the required standard. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5163 |
