Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 15, 2007 9:22 pm So we went to the Porter Davis Display today in Mernda, which turned out to be a 4 hour trip We went to check out the display they had of the Paddington which we are building, anyway when I was looking through there booklet of variations and upgrade prices the alfresco was $500 cheaper, It was priced at $4500, now the Porter Davis display in Pakenham whom we are dealing with has the alfresco at $5000 which is what they have charged us. Is there different prices for different areas? does anyone know? Re: What the? 2Dec 15, 2007 9:31 pm Aussiebell, was it the same house, just in different locations???
With our builder, different houses had different prices for their alfresco's because of the differences in roof lines etc. I'd be clarifying it if i were you. If it is the same house, then speak with head office instead of just the sales person at the displays and see what eventuates. Re: What the? 4Dec 16, 2007 7:57 am Hi Aussie.
When did you sign your contract? Prices do change, all you can do is agree with the prices at the time of your signing and then sign to guarantee those prices... Our own house went up by $5000 about 2 weeks after we signed (we signed in late November), and when we finally got the paperwork through after about 3 or 4 weeks the $5000 had actually been added to our pricing (builder stated that the pricing went up at the start of December) We calmly reminded him that we had actually signed in November and he graciously removed the $5000 extra cost. Re: What the? 5Dec 16, 2007 8:05 am Very true Rod, our house went up 4 times in 5 months - exactly when we were trying to choose which house to build.
We missed the first one due to not having any land, but it was only about $1000 anyway. The next couple of rises were not so small unfortunately and the house is now $6K more than what we signed for it. So it went up $7k in 5 months!!! But we held our pricing - but added heaps in upgrades - that's how they get you.... Re: What the? 7Dec 17, 2007 8:35 pm So we called up another sales rep to ask about the price and he told us $4500, so we went in to sign up and took in the booklet from the Mernda display which had the alfresco as $4500, she said "oh that must be an old booklet", my husband said no it's from yesterday, she went on to say that the price had gone up but she would put it as $4500 on our quotation and let head office deal with it. What the? again. who knows what is the truth. I'm just glad she changed it. Do you think they can put it up when we go in to sign our paperwork or is the price she quoted us going to stand.? |
