Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 14, 2007 2:15 pm From footings to handover? (lowset house)
I'm just curious. I was talking to my builder today and he told me contact date for our house was 22 May 2008. I nearly died. With wet weather and Christmas (for which they allow 27 working days) the days have been pushed right out. We are at frame stage now and the roof is due to go on on 9-11th January. The builder said he would hope to finish before then (I hope so!). Anway, just curious how long it took you. Re: How long did it take to build your house... 7Dec 14, 2007 6:46 pm We have had a fair bit of rain in Brisbane at the moment - seems to rain every second day. With Christmas too...it kinda stops the flow.
We had finance approval and everything was geared to go with the builder in September and we have been going since March. (started the house process) ..it just seems like the road doesn't end huh? Re: How long did it take to build your house... 10Dec 15, 2007 7:33 am Our Fernhaven Rosedale went from site start to handover in 6 and a half months (we were initally told it normally took 8 of their allowed 9).
Oh, and he never gave us any crap either... Re: How long did it take to build your house... 11Dec 15, 2007 8:05 am royalblue Fact #1 Your own home is constructed at a snail's pace. Fact #2 Everyone else's homes pop up like mushrooms. Deal with it! Ash. Bahahahah! That probably sums it up! Hey Vanderlay - yours took 22 weeks, but PD quote 20 weeks. What did you do with the money they gave you as late penalties? (as if). Re: How long did it take to build your house... 12Dec 19, 2007 9:51 am 26 weeks for a 43sqr, 2 storey home from levelling the site to hand over and that includes over a Christmas break.
Eden Brae throw them up extremely quick. 14 weeks for their single storey is not uncommon. [/b] Re: How long did it take to build your house... 13Dec 19, 2007 10:02 am perryr Bahahahah! (as if). exactly....the 20 weeks doesnt exist if you make any changes at all I think we had 23 weeks and 2 days in the contract. However we did get them to cough up the price of Kevin's report seeing as there were soooo many things to be fixed they or thier inspectors didnt pick up - was hard work getting that out of them though Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: How long did it take to build your house... 15Dec 19, 2007 11:08 am June 20 slab went down, got the keys on saturday. The rendering on the front is going to be taken off and redone, but they wanted us to have the keys so we could move in for xmas. Mind you, we aren't paying the final payment til it's finished, but they are fine with that. Re: How long did it take to build your house... 16Dec 19, 2007 11:08 am Matt,
I noticed your byline is "We have our new house - now it just needs the builder to be finished!!" How long do you think it will take to finish off the builder? Cheers, Casa Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: How long did it take to build your house... 18Dec 19, 2007 11:27 am Casa2 Matt, I noticed your byline is "We have our new house - now it just needs the builder to be finished!!" How long do you think it will take to finish off the builder? Cheers, Casa I tell you!!! Builders should not be allowed near gap filler.... It is not a way to hide all the mistakes, it is there to fill up gaps. I sometimes wonder if the builders think they are dealing with children. The stuff / logic they try and pass off is just garbage. Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20182 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11530 Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7117 |
