Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 11, 2011 9:28 pm We are planning to build a home in Perth starting within the next 6 months or so. I am making a list (am a list person! ) with all good points to have in our new home. Now I don't want to go overboard and have everything bright idea installed etc.... but what can't you live without in your new home? Ideas that I have so far - 1. Make one bedroom into a storage room (no kids so can use up one of the rooms...you never have enough storage!) 2. Glass splash backs in kitchen 3. Thinking of having glass splash back in bathroom with frameless shower screen and no hob.... ?good idea 4. No carpet in the house ??wooden floor ??tiles ??lino ??wood panel 5. What type of air conditioning is best in Perth? 6. Wider oven than standard ??freestanding or wall or under bench 7. Small pool off outdoor area (how much do you think that would be?? 8. How many powerpoints is enough? 9. Colour schemes - whats your favourite? 10. Double garage with large storeroom 11. Ideas for down lights - what is the best to get? 12. What builder did you go with - can PM me with details good or bad.... Please feel free to add to this list.... I don't want to jump into anything without thinking about it for a while and get peoples opinions! Re: Perth builders - ideas, thoughts on what we need! 2Feb 11, 2011 10:26 pm Same here... I will be watching your thread. We are planning to build in Baldivis, hoping to start the process in December. Hoping to build in Settlers Hill, Baldivis, WA. Re: Perth builders - ideas, thoughts on what we need! 3Feb 12, 2011 6:52 pm I love my floors - we have a neutral beige polished porcelain throughout our home with Jarrah floor boards in our bedrooms and study. I find that our floors are very easy to keep clean and there is no where for dust to hide (which I have previously found with carpeted floors). The only disadvantage is if I neglect to vacuum and mop for more than 2 days we end up getting a bit of dust building up against the timber skirting. We have large mats in our lounge area (where my daughter plays) and at the front and rear doors and that's about it! Thought that mats would be better than carpet as we can change them quite easily and cheaply if we get sick of them or they get tatty. As for the pool - it depends on what you want and if you are going to build it yourself. We built our own pool (it is a brick with liner) and built in the heated spa and it cost us all up about $30,000 including the feature wall. I would imagine that a fibre glass one would be much more expensive. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Good luck with your choices! Re: Perth builders - ideas, thoughts on what we need! 5Feb 12, 2011 9:24 pm Things mainly depend on your budget! Oh how I would of loved an extra $50k for the build. For us we would have done raised ceilings, nice cornice, kitchen full glass splashbacks, stone benches with island edges(waterfall?), flickmixers everywhere, bamboo floors, fancy stone feature tiles, cedar lined alfresco, concrete agregate instead of paving. 1. I have a store room/linen cupboard! I cut an office into half a store room and made a bedroom bigger. But there is a difference between storing and hoarding!!! 2. Yes! 3. Hobless showers are good - there a nice display in Ellenbrook I think Alto? Semi frameless good but at this display nothing - its cool. 4. I like the comfort of carpet. In a theatre its a must. 5. Ducted reverse cycle is best, but exp to install and run. 6. What looks like a wider oven usually isnt. Personally I'm not into the chunky freestanding ovens. 7. No idea but nice! 8. I would do 2 per bedroom - we have 1 double in the minors in the non cavity walls and can do more later. In the living areas I just put them around where I think I may want them later or for when furniture moves. Our theatre has 3 doubles, 2 conduits and a tv point. 9. I'm a neutral person. 10. Yes, if you can fit a 7m x 7m instead of a 6x6 do it. 11. I'm yet to get. 12. I'm happy with SPH Rip out and print and save pictures and plans you like. You'll work out what you want and need. 1 2618 Were struck with: Colorbond Ironstone Grey roof and cream windows. What color should we render and paint the garage door to tone down the cream windows?
