So having just read Erin's post about the massive spider got me thinking about the issue of all things creepy crawly...
I moved into a newly built property in mid-December and have (pretty much ever since) had numerous attempted "invasions". Thankfully not by large spiders (although there have been a couple of golden orb spiders that have taken a liking to my home's downpipes ) but by ants. Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm thinking that maybe because it's summer and quite dry (in between the torrential downpours) they are coming into the house looking for water? Or maybe they are trying to escape said downpours? I should note that I have limited insight into ant behaviour.
Anyway, I have used a supposed "barrier" spray around the perimeter of my home but it seems to have no effect on them. Recently I've taken to simply thoroughly coating each ant trail I see with normal bug spray (which at least kills the ants I can see). I have to do a patrol around the perimeter of my house every couple of days. My main concern is them getting in and building a nest in my roof or walls
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can easily (and hopefully with minimal damage to the environment) get rid of the ants? I have no issue with them remaining outside in the garden but they simply don't belong in my house!
Also I have a reticulated termite prevention system around the house; should I be concerned that this isn't working? (do termite control systems discriminate between white and black ants?!)
Thanks
