Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 10, 2011 8:16 pm I'm redeveloping an old block in inner south east Melbourne and keen on hearing about anybodies experience with demolition companies. Costs and the service etc. Also I'm thinking about trying to sell the house rather than pulling it down so if anyone can assist / offer advice as to process that would be great. Re: Demolition of old house vs selling it for removal 2Feb 10, 2011 8:27 pm hi camrw and welcome to the forum. selling and/or getting your house taken away from your site for free is definitely the ideal way to go. there are a couple of companies in victoria that do this, one is called Golden Age Homes (try google) the name of the other one escapes me right now but it has been discussed on this forum before. Call them out to have a look at your house, they will let you know if it's suitable for on-selling. If it is, then you need to wait for a buyer, which may take time, but if you're going through council for your development anyway this might not bother you. If it isn't suitable (as ours wasn't - in our case due to the house containing asbestos), then you need to go down the demolition path. cost of demolition will depend on many things including size, materials used, access to site, how much they can salvage or sell on. as a guide our 15ish square 3 bedroom fibro cement house on a flat block cost $8800 to demolish. It's definitely cheaper to go down the first path if you can - even if you don't get any money for the house, to have someone else arrange for the removal of the house for you, would save you a heap in demolition costs. good luck with the development, look forward to hearing more about your plans!
