Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 381Oct 21, 2011 12:45 pm dct, we're putting a projector screen in front of the feature wall. Probably not a TV but I wouldn't rule it out. PCI is done. Didn't find too much wrong with it. Just a hole in the mortar that the electrician had drilled ages ago needs to be filled. Also, a light switch panel in the family room has six switches and they're all over the place. There's two switches for each of the family, kitchen and meals so I'd expect them to be adjacent each other on the panel but they're not. That's it thankfully, so bring on handover!!! Bit peeved though. Our water meter got stolen this past week. Makes me worried that they'll be back for more. WORLD CONCEPT HOMES Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=44725 Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 384Oct 22, 2011 4:22 pm Not sure when handover is yet. I think the office will call to arrange that. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 385Oct 24, 2011 11:42 am bugger about the thieving!! It happened to us too and is quite common on empty houses. They actually took our gate of the hinges, turned our how water system off (to try and empty it, cool it down) then spent time in the carport trying to chip the door handle in for access to the house. Thankfully, they didn't get any further than that. They didn't get our hot water system or get in the house. The house across the road from us has a good idea - they've had handover but not ready to move in yet. They have two cars so they have been parking one out the front to imply that someone is there. Quite a good tactic!! Hope the move is soon Theresa!! Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 386Oct 25, 2011 8:41 am I think that's a great idea to park a car at the property. I'd been thinking we could do that. I noticed a house being built nearby installed curtains very quick after handover in some of the rooms. It really made you guess whether there was someone living there or not. I would've loved to have had curtains installed in the front windows immediately after handover but we've had trouble getting the curtain makers access. The builder won't give me a time when the trades will be there and they won't give the key. We'll have an alarm at least. Still no word on when handover will be. We called the office yesterday and they were supposed to call back but never did. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 387Oct 25, 2011 8:53 am We got redishades as we didn't move in for a couple of weeks and they are still serving us well while we wait for curtains and blinds. We also had a lamp on a timer to give the impression someone was living there. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 388Oct 26, 2011 9:15 am They called!!! This morning the builder called to book in handover. They said they need a couple of days to organise the trades but I said I need it done tomorrow! I'm expecting tiles to be delivered. They checked with the trades and said tomorrow morning is fine. So hopefully, it all gets finished on time. Can't believe it's almost ours Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 389Oct 26, 2011 9:17 am put the bubbly on ice so its nice and cold for when you open YOUR front door! Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 391Oct 26, 2011 1:54 pm Oh wow Super exciting , hope you have that bubbly chilling now Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ PCI done 392Oct 27, 2011 9:44 pm Handover is done. I must've had the shortest handover ever. I didn't realise the meeting with the builder would be so quick. I paid for 1.5 hours of ticket parking and the handover meeting went for a whole 7 minutes! Everything went relatively smoothly with only a couple of hiccups. The electrician tried installing the steam oven but it wouldn't fit in the kitchen cupboards. It was too deep. I was fearing the worst that they'd have to redo the oven tower but the kitchen people came and altered the cupboards so the steam oven could fit so it got installed. Then in the afternoon the freight company delivering the floor tiles called and said they were at the property but no one was there. I'd been told I'd receive a phone call an hour prior to them coming. So I had to rush over to the house to open up. They unloaded the tiles, 600 x 600 porcelain tiles, into the garage. I waited at my neighbours so I didn't watch them do it. I would've thought it would be a simple task. Well, they put them in 3 heaps so close to the garage roller door that they were in the way of the roller door closing. Each box contains about four 600 x 600 porcelain tiles and it was impossible to lift even one box by myself. I couldn't even push them away from the door, they were that heavy. There were about 50 boxes that needed to be moved. I didn't want to the leave the house with the roller door up and the tiles just sitting there for the taking so I had to wait for about an hour for DH to leave work and come help me move them Overall though, very happy with the house and so glad that we've got the keys in time for the tiler to start tomorrow. Will be so nice to see the tiles go in. It'll look much more homely.
