It's just so dirty at the moment and I don't have a mop or sponge at the property or time to to clean it. It'd only get dirty again anyway I guess. I can't believe how busy I've been since handover! Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes 403Nov 03, 2011 11:01 am Theresa libby I can't believe how busy I've been since handover! Amazing isn't it ... so much to do .. take some time to enjoy your new house too!! Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen drama :( 404Nov 03, 2011 11:17 am Oh mclaren, I wish I were enjoying my new house Actually, I've not been so stressed throughout this build as I have been after handover I got my new fridge delivered yesterday. I had given the measurements to the kitchen company that the builder uses so I would assume that the fridge would fit the cavity made for it. Well, it doesn't!!! The space for the fridge is not deep enough. There is 7.5cm showing of the side of the fridge. That's not including the door which sticks out further. Then add the handle and it's sticking out pretty far. So much for custom building a space to fit my fridge!!! I looked at the plan and I can clearly see that the space for the fridge is 60cm in depth. The depth of the fridge on the installation instructions is 67cm (not including the handles but I don't expect the doors and handles to be in the cavity, but surely the sides of the fridge should not be seen). So then there's the dishwasher. It's not sitting flush with the cabinetry. It's an integrated dishwasher so it should sit flat with the surrounding cupboards. Yet again, it's too deep!!!!!! And again, I had given the kitchen company the dimensions of the dishwasher at the kitchen selections interview so how this happened, I don't know! Could it be the hose at the back?!?!? Maybe that hasn't been taken into account. Seriously, what can you do?!?!? I'm thinking with the fridge, we'll have to get an electrician to move the power point from behind it. We'll then probably have to remove the skirting that is behind too. We might gain a few centimetres that way. We'll have to sit the fridge right back against the wall, which is probably not ideal for a fridge!!! It probably needs some space back there. The dishwasher, I'm first of all going to remove the floor tiling from under it to see if that makes a difference. That should be great fun removing 600 by 600 porcelain tiles. It only just fit into the space due to it's height so if the floor is not level and goes up even a millimetre, that will stop it going right it. I can see that the depth of the cabinet should be 60cm according to the plan. The dishwasher depth is 57cm. So I can now see why the builder refused to install my dishwasher!!! The builder's plumber installing all the taps commented that it's strange that the builder didn't want to install the dishwasher. He said he normally does install the dishwasher. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen drama :( 405Nov 03, 2011 11:30 am Oh no.... I know what you mean. It all seems smooth sailing till you get in and then ..... With our fridge it's just the door that pokes out past the cupboard which it would need to anyway so it can be opened. We had major dramas trying to level it till we found out from the Good Guys it is meant to lean back!! We had more major dramas getting the dishwasher in .. we took the piece of wood off at the top of the space and then after drilling a hole in the side of the cupboard realised the pipes were designed to go into the corner that was cut at the bottom of the dishwasher so we had to make a hole in the bottom of the cupboard and then one in the side of the skirting. It wasn't easy to get the pipe through both holes but we did it. DH trimmed the facing that fits above the dishwasher and it's all good now ... it was sitting in the middle of the kitchen for 3 days till we could face installing it! Have you spoken to the builder about the fridge space - is there anything they can do? Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen drama :( 406Nov 03, 2011 11:44 am I've just realised I'm going to be in the same boat. My fridge is 690mm depth exlcuding handle. 730mm including handle. And the depth of my cupboards are 600mm according to my plans Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen drama :( 407Nov 03, 2011 3:27 pm Yes, it's strange how these cavities are only 60cm deep, and fridges seem to be much deeper. which is why we were so annoyed about the exposed pipes behind ours - it would push our fridge another 20cm out into the kitchen! Hope that you find some solution for it all.... it's always the little things that trip us up in the end! Pg 12 Follow our build: The Noodle Family - Preston in the Hills Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen drama :( 408Nov 03, 2011 8:43 pm Theresa, we have the same problem with our fridge. We measured the height and width, but forgot about the depth. It sticks out more than we would have liked. We will move the power point, which will not makeit as bad, but it will still stick out further than we want. When we renovated our last house, we got the fridge space and cupboards deeper to accommodate the fridge. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ Kitchen and pics 409Nov 03, 2011 9:52 pm I spoke to the kitchen place and they said that their standard depth for cabinetry is 60cm. Unless someone specifies their cupboards to be deeper, then 60cm is what you get. The kitchen designer will only look at the width and height of your appliances when designing the space, not the depth as that is standard.
What makes the fridge look worse is that the fridge is next to a wall that is only 60cm in depth. In the display home the fridge is in a different location, next to a wall that is 800mm in depth. The kitchen designer had advised us to move the fridge to its new location as the addition of a wider fridge and oven tower had pushed the rangehood and cooktop into the corner of the kitchen. Separating the fridge and oven tower to opposite sides of the kitchen resolved that issue, but created another unforeseen issue. This afternoon I had the rangehood installed by the person that the builder recommends. I didn’t know that he works for the builder and is the same person that looks at the issues that customers submit after handover. He took one look at the dishwasher jutting out and said that’s just not on! He’s contacting the kitchen place tomorrow to get them to fix it. He said it would be linked to how they’ve fixed the large feature panels to the other side of the island bench. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I told him about the fridge and how I’d wished that the kitchen place would’ve considered the depth of the appliances as well. He just said that they can’t guess everything that a customer might want. So the fridge is staying as is which I’m not surprised. Apart from starting over, there’s not a lot that can be done. We’ll still move the plug from behind the fridge. The fridge needs to sit a minimum of 3cm from the rear wall. So we should be able to move it back about 4cm. Better than nothing. I think the more I’m in the house, the more I'll get used to it. At least they can fix the dishwasher. Abd like you said the more you're in the house the better you'll feel! Wow your tiles look fantastic! And you're kitchen is a dream!! Congrats! Now relax and enjoy your new gorgeous home Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes 418Nov 28, 2011 11:29 am Thanks for all your lovely comments. Now that we've been in the house for a while, I hardly notice the fridge sticking out. I'll still get the powerpoint moved from behind the fridge when I get a chance. I'm still without the internet at home so that's why I've not been on here for a while. I can't get a landline at the moment as there are none left in my area. I only live 8km from the city so you'd think it wouldn't be a problem. Before we knocked down our house and rebuilt we had a landline but they must've given it to someone else. There's a lot of subdivisions happening in the area so I think they just can't keep up with the demand. I'm hoping to finally get a landline before Xmas. Re: Building the Monaco ~ Fairmont Homes ~ After handover PI 419Jan 26, 2012 5:21 pm Well, I thought a post was long overdue. I think I lost my momentum for posting after I didn't have internet access for a while. That got resolved.
