Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 07, 2011 5:38 pm Hi all, We're in the process of building (a few weeks since site start) and I've come across a problem with our electricity arrangements. Last Thursday the builders installed a temporary power pole to our block - a strange arrangement I thought, considering we've installed a power pit. I contacted the builder and they've replied to me that they require the temporary power pole until the frame is complete, and are unable to issue us a credit from the contract (the contract states that if an underground power pit is available then the pricing for the temporary power pit will be credited back to us). However, the kicker - today they've run the wires from the underground power pit to what presumably will be the meter box (the wires are looped around a piece of timber sticking on the ground which I assume will be where the meter box will be installed). Anyone had this issue before? What's going on? For reference, the underground power pit is not live - however we expected the builder to make it live, since we've signed a document stating that they can go and provide power to the site for us. Any assistance and insight would be great. Re: Underground Power Pit & Temporary power pole 3Feb 07, 2011 8:17 pm Hi I work for an electricity distribution company and what the builder has told you is correct. the BSP (builders supply pole) is there temporarily (approx 3 months is common) so the guys can get started on framing. Just because there is a pit installed it doesnt necessary mean there is supply in it as it would need to be livened up - this is done by the distribution company. Thanks for that cevapa. My question I suppose then is - considering I've signed off permitting the builder to organise the gas & electricity, should it be the builder's responsibility to contact someone to liven it up? Thanks for that cevapa. My question I suppose then is - considering I've signed off permitting the builder to organise the gas & electricity, should it be the builder's responsibility to contact someone to liven it up? The builder/electrician needs to call the distribution company to find out when it will be livened. It's your (or whoever bulder you're using) electricians responsibility to find out whether there is supply available to your block before he puts in paperwork for the actual meter. Re: Underground Power Pit & Temporary power pole 6Feb 08, 2011 10:43 pm Gave the builder & supervisor a call today and it appears they will be taking away the BSP since they'll use the underground power pit instead (the logical way to do it, in my opinion). Now to chase them up in regards to giving me a credit for it... Thanks again, cevapa Hi JW I just read your post and I find this situation quite strange.
