We have had to lock the ensuite window permanently open to disperse the steam. Re: Our build - back on track....bricks finished - yayyy! 344Feb 29, 2012 6:34 am Oh no, I thought heller were good... We are having powder ducted to outside and bathroom and ensuite ducted to roof - is this bad? We've got a combined light/exhaust in the WC and because there's no steam in there, there's no problem. There's also less of a problem with the light/exhaust/heat in the main bath, but that's about twice the size of the ensuite. I think our builder put in just a light and separate fan as standard, not sure if he knew better than us? Before we locked the window open a bit, we had them replace the shaving cabinet doors and hinges, the hinges had rusted and the mirrors had tainted. Phil went up in the roof and checked that there wasn't any insulation on top of the fan, but it was all clear. I think we'll eventually put in a separate fan. Maybe we should start a thread on this and see if anyone really knows? Hey Nina, I'm not sure that Heller are bad, maybe there's something wrong with this unit. All three of ours go into the roof, but we hardly ever use the WC anyway. We do, however, have the kitchen extractor fan and the clothes dryer ducted outside. Clothes dryer ducted outside was a requirement for me, as I'm English, and we all have it over there. . . No more dust and pet hairs all over the laundry wall, yeah! Re: Our build - back on track....bricks finished - yayyy! 347Feb 29, 2012 7:21 am Ah, you are a pommie too! We haven't got our dryer ducted, I did think about it (as thought we would have to have one of those horrible pipes sticking out the window if we didn't) but was told no need. I'm just thinking, I don't think we actually have a fan in the laundry at all....seems this is a mistake on our part? Re bathroom fan, heat lamp - if we have a fan over the shower and a separate heat lamp elsewhere we would be fine shouldn't we? We now have a HPM light/heater/combo with 4 lights in the ensuite which seems to work okay although it's noisy and it doesn't look like it will require much cleaning - haven't done so yet! Re: Our build - back on track....bricks finished - yayyy! 351Feb 29, 2012 5:00 pm nina - we are getting external ducting (instead of exhaust fans). I can't remember where (but I am pretty sure it was on the Masterton thread) but I read about it being much better (but of course more expensive) to actually duct the exhaust as the fans are pretty weak. If you have a good window then that is a huge help, but for us we wanted ducting. Also, most builders duct (or have the exhaust fans) release into the roof cavity. This means moisture accummulates which is not a good thing if you have sarking (which we do). It is even worse if you have a flat roof (like we do). So for a number of reasons we want external ducting, not just exhaust fans, and not released into the roof. Still need to ensure we actually get what is in our tender, but DH was talking to builder about it this morning. Re: Our build - back on track....bricks finished - yayyy! 353Mar 05, 2012 12:50 pm Thank you everyone for your fan/heat lamp feedback. Its still causing me a headache and I am probably worrying uneccessarily....but when faced with a decision I like to make things complicated for myself it seems! So - our electrician has recommended this from clipsal Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ but it only has a 125m3/hr airflow - whereas something like this has up to 550 m3/hr airflow Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Does anyone know if Mercator are a good brand? Ive never heard of them.... Also, in case you are interested, I just got separate quotes from CTC Communications for 2 alarm systems - and they are way cheaper than our electricain is quoting - more than $500 cheaper. So am going to see if we can use them instead.... Hi Springtime - we have a whirly bird in our roof - will this help with the moisture (because we also have sarking)...? WH never informed us that ducting to the roof would be a problem from this point of view....but that doesnt mean anything!!! If you had normal roof tiles, it wouldn't have been a problem. That's what were told anyhow, who knows who's right ? Re: Our build - back on track....bricks finished - yayyy! 356Mar 05, 2012 3:54 pm Double checked and all ok if you have a whirly bird apparently.
