The good news is work carried on on-site until 23rd December (even in the rain). They were busy excavating for services, laying/connecting services (almost not laying foxtel cable...um, hello? Thankfully we thought to double check again), and excavating for and laying stormwater drainage. They will be back on site from 16th Jan, which was meant to be when the frame would be started but I wonder if they might need to do some more drainage work first, not sure. Anyway, lots of pics that speak for themselves..... Some very serious drainage work there and excavation. Yay for progress! Oh and we thought we'd throw ourselves a little more pressure, baby number 2 due in July...... So, 6 months to go and what will come first - baby or house? After the last experience we know to cautiously manage our expectations......so strongly suspect we will be naming the baby before the house! I just might have to go and stick my big fat belly out on site every now and then though - come on boys, we need a house! DH did heaps, all the family helped unpack and I sat back and relaxed Actually not a bad idea, i wonder if it is too late for number 3 We are hoping to have carpenters this week as well, frame is delivered ready to go, we are so having a race Re: Our build - back on track....is that a slab I see? 70Jan 16, 2012 7:37 pm Thanks GoGo! The way those Zen guys move I reckon you'll be flying ahead in no time, they don't hang about when they set about doing something. Yes, have already thought that if everything happens around the same time at least I won't have to do any packing / unpacking, we'd have to get the professionals in (No chance of leaving it to DH....!). Ha ha, thinking about number 3 - somewhat extreme measures!!! That is amazing that you conceived with all the building stress happening. Good luck. And great to see progress your end too. We should have had slab last week, so could have been even Stevens with you guys, but we will be a while behind now. GOOD LUCK!! and keep the pics coming. A minor detail/small problem called money I s’pose…. So – we have always thought that we would like to extend the back deck at a later stage (when we'd had a chance to save some more money) and build a roof over it. Having spoken with some of the trades guys, we understand that it would make more sense and be cheaper to do this now rather than later on, if we can find the money that is…. Here is what we have planned so far: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here is what we’ve been thinking (subject to council and neighbour approval of course). Can you see any flaws as a general design? I can’t think of anything…… Ideally I’d love the 2 sets of bi-folds or even one massive set, but with 3 cats who aren’t allowed out at night we wouldn’t be able to sit with the windows (with screens) open at night if we did that. Perhaps practicality would have to win through on that idea….which would be a shame (BTW - obviously we'd have a privacy screen on the right hand side as you look at it). Week and a half to complete frames, geez I will have bricks by then As for the deck, it would make sense to at least the get the roof part done as one continuous piece, could you maybe do the roof, but leave the flooring till you get a little spare cash?? And really that deck will be fanatstic living space that will be really well utilised. I don't know if it seems small (although I thought the slab was small, so probably will think that) as I haven't seen in the flesh yet - ahhhhhh. I work in the city and that's the opposite direction, by the time I get home it's little fella duty then time for dinner and bed! DH works 5 mins away, so relying on him for piccies until the weekend when I get to inspect. And ssh with your brick talk!! All I can see is dust as you speed off into the distance!! We are consulting with everyone re the deck so will know more soon hopefully.... Hopefully we will be able to give you the grand tour soon!! Hows your place going? I keep driving by, but cant see the progress as its all inside now! Hope all good? Hi Nina Marie, Its all going well. Builders are there every day! They spent 4 weeks fixing defects from the old builder (covered by insurance thankfully) such as redoing all the eaves, posts, fixing render, replacing windows, doors and flooring etc. The last 4 weeks they have been painting inside, tiling the downstairs floor, hanging doors, door handles, bathroom flooring, water proofing, electricals (just waiting for enery aust to connect the top of our pole to the mains), fixing out wardrobes and so on. Very busy. They are fantastic. Slower than a project home builder, but they do alot of the work themselves and these guys are fanatical about detail. They pride themselves on perfection. I love it. the finishes compared to our old company are second to none. They can take their time for all I care, as long as they are there every day. One thing I have learnt about building is that slow and steady wins the race. Quality over quantity... (of homes built). I'll keep an eye on your place over the next few weeks!! Very exciting to see the frame going up!!! GForce. Re: Our build - back on track....the carpenters are in.... 80Jan 20, 2012 6:59 pm yay to frames Nina! Yay GForce to your great progress too!! Who is your new builder? Interesting what you say about slow and steady wins the race ... My builder seems to be going at a cracking pace on houses (not ours at the moment) but I am hoping the quality will be OK. Congrats again both of you. Anyone heard from Bel recently?
