Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our build- back on track.....BTW 2041Jan 09, 2013 8:59 pm She is just beautiful Nina, 6 months has just flown by. Lucky you getting a Rhoomba. I have just bought a robot vac from ebay & it came without instructions & the remote does not seem to work. I set it going & it seems pretty good but gets stuck & with no remote I have to follow it around which defeats the purpose. the instructions are coming & if I still can't figure out how to get the remote to go or how to use the mopping function I will send it back. Does yours get its self unstuck from corners etc? Can you set it to work for an hour or so untended? Re: Our build- back on track.....BTW 2042Jan 09, 2013 11:31 pm Aww what a cutie, she is a lovely bub!! Nina I am saving to get my own Rhonda, how is it with the pet hair?? Does it work? Thanks ladies, she does nothing but smile and giggle, a dream baby so no doubt will be a nightmare teenager! Ryan I don't have to do anything with Rhonda - she doesn't get stuck anywheRe as she bumps around and figures her way out again. Yu can buy a remote for it but I don't see the point - I put her on and let her do her own thing and she goes back to base when she is full or runs out of power. I think you can set her to work for a certain amount of time, I know you can set the time that she starts. She needs the full 2 hours to downstairs I reckon since she is so random. I did the bedrooms today - just closed her in each one and she only took about 10 mins to do each one. So good. Treeseachanger - brilliant with pet hair - that's the bulk of stuff she picks up every day downstairs. Along with rice, toast crumbs etc from the kiddies. I can't send it back just because it isn't as good as I expected. Maybe I will put it back on ebay as second hand & get a better one from Harvey Norman. You get what you pay for I guess, serves me right for being tight. How much are Rhondas sisters? Re: Our build- back on track.....BTW 2048Jan 10, 2013 9:10 pm Ok, now I am wanting a Rhonda too! She is becoming popular!!! Do you have a cleaner too? Re: Our build- back on track.....BTW 2055Jan 13, 2013 9:43 am Rhonda must be "like a sunriiiiiiiiiiiiiiise". Your baby is beautiful Nina! And I don't even like kids. That's how beautiful she is! My friend has roomba too. She loves it. I'd get one, but we got ducted vacuum, so I can't really justify it. Re: Our build- back on track.....back from hols 2056Mar 02, 2013 5:59 pm Hello strangers! We just got back from hols in Noosa and you might be pleased to know I was thinking of you all when we were there.... We hired a house that was probably built 5-7 years ago and it was amazing the things I noticed because we had also built. We all talked about the air-con ducted to the wrong places, the pool location and how we would have placed it on the other side, the kitchen bench size and blah blah blah! As soon as we arrived, this put a smile on my face - does it remind you of anyone???!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Of course, it’s not as nice as somebody else's door - it needs stripping back to reveal the beautiful wood don't you think?! Thanks Jodge!! The house had a ducted vacuum and now I wished I'd tried it just to see what it is like. I did mentiuon a few times that it could do with a Roomba though!! nerak Gorgeous little girl you have Nina! Love her big blue eyes and perfect mouth. I like the sound of Rhonda – anything that means I don’t have to sweep or vacuum sounds great to me. Thank you Nerak TashnStu77 I love it Rhonda the roomba what a great chrissie present. Beautiful photo of your daughter, it just goes by so quickly when you look back Makes me a little clucky when I see photos of little ones. Oh Tash I'd love a kitchenaid too! It just seems such a lot of money though, especially when I rarely bake. I am practicing more and more though. When are you going to show us some more pics of your gorgeous house??!! willcres Nina, just saw your baby girl photo, she's beautiful & gorgeous!! Sooo cute!! Hey Wilcres - thank you! How are things at your end - anything happening? Garden? Mclaren What a gorgeous baby ... love those chubby cheeks Thank you McLaren! Chubby all over, so squidgy and scrummy! Carak and Ryan - there is a Scooba for the floor, but reviews of it aren't great unfortunately. I could definitely do with a window one too - especially with these fly screens, some marvellous invention where you don't have to remove them to clean the windows would be awesome. Hi T - I think they are about $300 or perhaps $400. I wouldn't have bought it myself as I have too many other things to buy, but am so pleased my family gave it as a present - it really is one of the best things I own! We have a cleaner every couple of weeks, but Rhonda gets a workout every day - completely necessary with 2 kids and 3 cats. Thank you everyone else for the kinds comments re Eliza. She is becoming very mobile now and it's time to think about padding at the step-up into the playroom....otherwise I spy a few head cracks coming. And, seriously back to the house now.... So I don't know whether I told you that my mum and brother sent us some plants for the garden for my birthday? That was back at the end of November and I am only just getting around to planting them now. I wasn't sure what to do with them in terms of the overall garden design and was waiting for our landscapers' advice and quote for the rest of the garden planting. However, after all that hot weather I thought it would be silly to do everything in one go in case it didn't survive. Then we had some family come to stay with us recently and we talked a lot about gardening and went to the Friends of the Botanical Gardens to get some little plants as a housewarming present....so I have now decided to plant everything we have and just add to the garden as we go. Fingers crossed it works These are the plants I received for my birthday 4 x kangaroo paws, 2 x swamp foxtail grasses, 4 x coastal rosemaries, one Japanese maple and 2 x albury's red bushes Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I planted the rosemaries on the first tier out the back to try and cover the pool fencing (not sure if I have even shown you the fencing yet?). I also planted some jasmine on this level at the sewage pump end as that can get a bit whiffy on a really hot day so lots of fragrant flowers might help (if they grow). I went to plant the maple and albury's red out the front but discovered that beneath the op soil it is rock hard - so I need to invest in a full size fork and spade before attempting those.. The kangaroo paws and glasses are on the second tier in a little rock garden bed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is the overall back garden plan so far - lots more to add to it, but this is everything that has been planted so far. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have to say I never thought I would get excited about gardening, but I have been really enjoying it (and was even planting out there in the rain today). My step-mother in law gave me a gardening book that is great for selecting plants and understanding the conditions they need so I have been reading that in bed!! Here are a few pics of what has been planted, only for the purpose of providing a "before" shot before they grow.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As well as gardening I have also been busy with a bit of DIY. Not quite the same enjoyment from this project though - sanding and refinishing our coffee table. Our coffee table is 9 years old and has been well used by us and our cats and now the kids. For the last 3 years we have had to put up with a really unsightly mark where a bottle of "urine off" (I forget which brand) left a hideous mark where it took the stain off (cat went through a bad patch weeing indoors in old flat). The table was nothing special to begin with, but is quite useful as it has 4 compartments where you can store things (in the past it was wine racks, these days it is boxes of kids books and nappies ). Whilst the kids are young we really don't want to spend a fortune on nice furniture only for them to ruin it - so off I went and bought a very nice Makita sander.... Here are the project pics Here it was in place Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ When I had started sanding - you can see the ring mark top right Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ all sanded Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ first coat of cabots stain and varnish in one (coco black, satin) - an absolute pig of a product to work with - hated every minute of the painting.... So whilst I didn't enjoy this one, the end result was worth it. DH now wants me to do the dining table, but the painful painting memory is too strong still - cannot be ar$ed with that! Other news? The playroom is still a work in progress - have a sofa and toy drawers now, but still need bookcases and a smaller desk. Still toying with the idea of Hemnes bookcases and a corner desk. Patiently waiting for Pottery Barn to open in Sydney as I like one of their corner desks and I resent paying $450 for an ikea desk.... I have a few other things to update you with but need to get the kids off to bed. Will try and write a bit more tomorrow. Hope everyone is well - bye for now! Of course I had a good laugh at your door photos. you know DH still hasn't done the inside. I expect ot may stay this way for quite a while yet. the view from the place you stayed at looked amazing. Its funny, but I totally know what you mean about seeing other houses, hotels etc in a new light once you have had the luxury and pain of building yourself. Its amazing the details we now notice. So I had a good chuckle in understanding when I read about your analyzing the place you were staying. And like you, I am for the first time trying my hand at gardening, not having a clue what to do, but loving it! Your photos and assembly of plants too very exciting! It is a good time to plant now I believe, with all this rain. That coffee table turned out wonderful! I also turned the big 4-0 recently, so we have both achieved two big milestones in the past 6 months - new house and another decade... Plus of course you had Eliza on top. Still don't know how you did it... Lovely to hear from you, do stay in touch (altho I am a bit slack on the forum these days).
