Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 30, 2011 8:34 pm Hi Guys We are building our home in Sydney for the very first time and are bit clueless about QUITE a few things:) We have signed up for the tender and are in the process of signing the contract in a day or two. It so happened that we asked for an alteration for our windows..had normal sliding windows decided all throughout the house. However we decided to have an arched window in our lounge and a bifold window in the kitchen as it overlooks the patio. Our builder has charged $2100 for the arched window & $1700 for the bifold one as we are now making changes at a much later stage. Do you think it's a fair price? Please feel free to share your experiences Re: Fair price? 2Jan 31, 2011 8:15 am Changes made before the contract are signed shouldn't be as expensive as post signed but it depends on what you're after. As far as windows goes, it really depends on size and the type of change made. Maybe it now requires a bigger lintel or bracing. In any case this is really a case by case thing and comes down to if you want it bad enough you'll pay. In your contract it should state the % they will add for extra work or variations Re: Fair price? 3Jan 31, 2011 9:28 am To be fair, the builder may have to get a whole bunch of people to go over the plans again. Like chrisandkate said, if the windows are changing in size or shape then there's lintels and so on to think of, to make sure the house is still structurally sound. I would ask for a breakdown of the price so you can see exactly where the money is going. Since it's before contract signing I would not be expecting a large "admin fee", but maybe a fee for work involved in changing the plan. (this was upgraded before tender and contract stage) Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement. We have an old 50's house with masonite everywhere and nails popping out, warping, rusted etc.… 0 4499 Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7053 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35192 |
