The house is looking great - love your feature tiles - not over the top! The dining chairs turned out great - probably looks better than the originals eh? Can't wait to see your landscaping - the plan looks good. Re: Snaggers Home - FINISHED & MOVED IN!!! 303Feb 11, 2012 12:26 pm So monday morning last week I woke early to meet the fence painter and was pleasently surprised when the irrigation installers arrived a day early to install the irrigation ready for the landscaping to start. 2 days later, the landscaping started nice and early (I decided to stay in bed for just a little bit longer while they rattled around outside) and they got most of it done on the first day! Here's the pics I managed to score before having to leave for work! Before landscaping started, I put in a lot of effort leveling the sand and weeding the sand out with help from the GF Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They came back the next day (but alas I was at work by that point ) and put the rest of the pavers down the middle and the synthetic grass in the corner out the front. I got a call from my sister saying they hadn't finished yet, but she didn't realise that I was going to do the rear garden section (the empty strip along the side fence) myself along with buying and spreading the river stone around the 2 front sections. I'm also going to be putting compacted blue metal in down the dead side of the house and on the other side of the drive way, and have had the weed matting supplied by the landscaper, but apparently they ran out and will be back next week to finish that off. Looking good and it makes a HUGE difference having something other than sand around the place. Now it finally feels like a home AND will be easier to keep clean, which is always a bonus Re: Snaggers Home - FINISHED & MOVED IN!!! 304Feb 11, 2012 4:07 pm The house looks gorgeous snaggers, I just did a post for you, but it seems to have vanished! They came back this week and put the rest of the weed matting down in the spaces at the front and along the side of the house (which the supervisor had originally not seen on the plan...oops!) and I've dialled back the grass watering from 3 times a day to 2 times. Will dial it back more next time I'm home to try ween it off the "juice" ready for normal water restrictions. On another note, I've ordered a gate to go between the garage and fence to try make the place a bit more secure. I was going to take a bit more time to save up for a nice gate, but dad urged me to get it done fater and offered to pay for it to start with after I had an "incident" as follows. After a night out down Margaret River way at the outdoor cinema, I pressed the button to put the garage door up, drove in (about 11:30pm) and we got out of the car, opened the kitchen door and started chatting to the others already inside. All the doors had been left open as we were only a cppl of metres away in the kitchen from the car in the garage and had the intention of going back to unpack the car, when I heard the garage door stating to go down. I peeked around the corner and thought, "That's odd. Must be a timed security feature or something", as nobody else had closed it. Left it at that. In the morning hwoever, I got in the car and the remote was gone. In short, it had been nicked from the car while we were standing just inside the door, and they'd closed the door behind them!!! THe nerve of some deviants! Reported it to the cops later that day and they dropped in that night for a quick look and told me just to be extra vigilant. I had turned the door off to render the remotes useless, and have since wiped it's memory and reprogrammed the 2 we still have. Easy fix, but still a annoying. So I went looking for a gate tuesday arvo, and ordered it wednesday morning. Just as well I did start looking now cos the order was about to be placed and instead of 6 weeks, I would've had to wait 16-18 weeks if I missed that one!!! Will be a nice looking gate though. Got a gate on the way to go between the garage and the fence too, but no pics of that yet. Nice solid double metal gate with narrow slats and key lockable handles. But more on that later.

Slowly getting around to getting the smaller things done. Like putting nails up for pictures etc (and nearly going through power wires and water pipes!). Would like to get stuck into some more of the landscaping stuff too, but alas, time and money will dictate those things! P.S. Mowed the lawn for the first time too. Just after taking the above pic from through the dining room window. Still gotta trim up around the edges though! That's gonna be a bit more fiddly. May i ask, what made you grass right up against your house/slab? Moisture will get it's way into your house and eventually turn your skirting's moldy. You may not notice this now, but 5-10 years down the track it could be a big issue. I believe it could potentially be inviting for white ants. I thought most footings contracts have a blanket statement you must abide by to keep your structural guarantee. May want to look into this. I have thought about the mulch at the front being a termite risk, but the grass is still below the termite barrier. Can I please ask what colourbond colours you used for your roof, gutters and fascia? I really like that colour combination. Thanks Peta Thanks Peta. My Roof and Fascia is "Colourbond - Jasper" and the Gutters are "Colourbond - Dune Ovolo"....well at least they're supposed to be. Now that I've been looking at all the pics trying to figure out what colour the roof, gutters and fascia are and the pics don't seem to match what the paint schedule says, so a closer inspection is now required when I get home on Thursday. I like the look of it so I won't complain if it is technically wrong, but something just doesn't seem to be adding up More on that later I suppose! Re: Snaggers Home - FINISHED & MOVED IN!!! 320Jun 05, 2012 5:31 pm Ok then. A quick show of what I had done last week. Got the back garden bed started. I was contemplating doing it myself, but I've neer done brick laying before and didn't want to waste too much time doing what could turn into a mediocre job, so I rang a guy who'd left his card in the letter box a few weeks prior and he came and gave me a quote. I liked it and so he was back 2 days later to do the job. Only took him the morning to do and he did foundation bricks and all...something I hadn't even thought of. He supplied the foundation bricks and I supplied the left over half bricks from the house build for the top edges. That way anything that grows in there I know I can just kill and it should be nice easy maintenance. What ya's reckon? Also gonna get pea gravel and railway ballast to do the front stone areas with instead of the black and white river stones I had originally planned. The river stones were going to cost me about $2k all up whereas the pea gravel is $70 a scoop and the ballast is $50 a trailer load. Far more affordable and it'll bring a bit more colour to the front of the house. Was told not to use quartz cos it goes brown and dirty soon enough and limestone breaks down eventually. The red colour should compliment the purple feature wall nicely I reckon. Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
