I was contemplating doing it myself, but I've neer done brick laying before and didn't want to waste too much time doing what could turn into a mediocre job, so I rang a guy who'd left his card in the letter box a few weeks prior and he came and gave me a quote. I liked it and so he was back 2 days later to do the job. Only took him the morning to do and he did foundation bricks and all...something I hadn't even thought of. He supplied the foundation bricks and I supplied the left over half bricks from the house build for the top edges. That way anything that grows in there I know I can just kill and it should be nice easy maintenance. What ya's reckon? Also gonna get pea gravel and railway ballast to do the front stone areas with instead of the black and white river stones I had originally planned. The river stones were going to cost me about $2k all up whereas the pea gravel is $70 a scoop and the ballast is $50 a trailer load. Far more affordable and it'll bring a bit more colour to the front of the house. Was told not to use quartz cos it goes brown and dirty soon enough and limestone breaks down eventually. The red colour should compliment the purple feature wall nicely I reckon. Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
