The only reason I thought about it was when we started upgrading /changing things with our builder they seemed very reluctant. They almost always tried to talk us out of it saying 'we can get you a quote but it will be expensive'. After a few changes I thought - maybe project builds shouldn't be changed too much or you lose the value. THen you run the same risks as a fixed price contract from a project home company. We are currently getting plans drawn up by an architect as we are renovating rather than building a new house. Once done, we will get a tender from 3 or 4 builders so we get a competitive quote.
