We checked whether the torn/cut sisalation were fixed... uh-oh.. not yet:

and we met with our SS today (good thing he was available when we were on leave today) and he said that this issue (sisalation cuts) that Kev raised weren't really issues... as the % of the torn sisalation is within tolerance... agree? or disagree?

but the issue with the joist was fixed:

according to our SS, the HT pre-cabling will be done this Thursday (although it might be earlier or later, depending on the contractor) and plastering will commence as soon as the cabling is finished (so, hopefully Friday).

We were not armed with the pre-plaster inspection when we met with our SS today... unfortunately, and among all the issues that Kev raised, the only thing that was fixed (and our SS believed that it was a real issue) was the joist. Other than that, he said that they are all within tolerance.
He said he could cover up the cut sisalation just to please me, but it won't serve any purpose.

If Kev says fix it, then make them. They will try and get out of doing things all the time, just because of the inconvenience.

Our SS said that Kev isn't qualified...
All the issues that we raised (unfortunately we didn't have the Pre-plaster report at that time), his response was normally, 'it's within the tolerance' or 'itwas approved by our inspector'.
We told him that he should be present during inspection so he could discuss the issues with Kev.. but he refused.. he said Kev isn't qualified anyway.

That is frustrating for you VJ....Why would you bother spending money on Kev if they don't take his advice and fix the problems...it seems totally unfair.

I hope the issues are nothing major and 'within tolerance' for your sake, but really they should fix everything you ask to be fixed.

Our SS tried to justify why he wouldn't fix some issues. He said they were within tolerance and their inspector approved it. He said they won't go to the next stage if their inspection doesn't approve it. We asked for their inspection report, he said they are not required to give it to the client, as it is their company policy not to proceed anyway without the approval from their inspector.

What we'll do is to ring Kev and ask whether our SS was correct to say that the ripped/cut sisalation were within tolerance. If Kev says yes, then we won't dispute. I wonder if someone from the forum knows whether some ripped off sisalation is within tolerance. SS was quoting something like.. 10% or something is within tolerance.

I agree.. that's why after the meeting, I was a bit disappointed. I appreciate all the explanations that our SS did during the meeting, but not happy with all the excuses at all. I will feel better if some people would tell us that what our SS told us was true. Otherwise, I would feel worried and disappointed.

here is what they did to the back of the wall (looking from the garage).. they opened up the sisalation and put a timber to support the wall:

btw, I'll post another topic about this... our timber windows to the front.. looks like it wouldn't be possible to put plantation shutters due to the window locks... one supplier told us that it can be placed outside of the window frame.. but don't like that idea:

By the way, we realised that we haven't checked whether they've already put in the acoustic insulation to the HT room.

So we emailed our CSR and she said that the insulation company confirmed that they installed the correct insulation to the HT.
How would we know if they really installed the correct acoustic insulation? :?:

Good point VJ. I wonder how you do? Would help if the batts had the code printed on them! I suppose the packaging would say what sort it is...... let's hope they did it right :wink:

Kids have great imaginations don't they? Just love it. We'll probably have enough timber at this current house to build another one by the time we've finished. DS takes a shine to a piece every time we visit the block and it HAS to come home with us :roll:

Great to see the progress, VJ. The house really seems to come to life once the plaster goes on, you won't believe how quickly they will install it!
