Garage door looks great. If you are happy with how it all looks then don't change it. Your garage door doesn't have to match perfectly with your windows. I love it!
Yes we have had great progress. Our SS has been great in getting things finished. Painting is starting next week and then cabinetry after that. He prefers to do it that way which is fine by me, won't have to worry about scraping the paint of our cabinets Hope you get a walk through date soon! Happy at Home Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 782Oct 15, 2008 10:33 pm VJ Phoenix!!! How come you are not posting new photos from your house? LOL, VJ, i am recovering from an OP i had a month ago, had few things going on with the family too. Hubby is slooooooooowly moving forward with the work, but very little has been done really since i went into hospital. The poor devil has to look after inside AND outside for a few months yet!... When we do do some more i will post it. I'm not holding out on you....i promise! VJ Don't you think the garage door looks very dark? Probably you can't really tell in the photos... I really love it.. but whenever I see it with the timber windows/doors, I tend to agree with DH to stain the windows/doors to a darker shade to match with the garage door The other colour was a bit orangey.. that's why we opted for the darker one instead. Hey VJ, the door looks dark in the photo but thats probably due to the shadow? Maybe post a pic taken earlier in the day. You can alway re-stain them darker in say a years time when they require it anyway? They will require regular upkeep so you have the option to change the window/front door colour anyway. Cant wait to see more pics!!!!! Fingers crossed it all goes well. I didn't know that you underwent an OP . How are you now? Hope you are recovering well. Re: the garage door, unfortunately, it does look very dark (compared to our timber windows/doors). The other orangey one is a bit closer to the colour of our windows/doors, but we don't like it. Might have to re-stain the timber in the future. Yes, can't wait to see photos of your beautiful house! I'm sure we'll get used to it. And fromy our pics, I think the colours match fine. - the difference between the shades of our garage door and timber doors/windows - the visible joins of the Linea cladding to the front of the house (very visible in the afternoon), as well as the ones to the right sides of the house (visible in the morning) -- let's see if you can see 'em Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ did you see the visible joins to the front cladding? gosh, i hate 'em! we visited once in the afternoon and they were so obvious... unfortunately, we didn't bring the camera. this photo was taken late in the afternoon.. so not as obvious as when you see 'em mid-afternoon. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ from this photo, you can see how dark our garage door is! we love the colour.. but when seeing it with the timber doors/windows, it doesn't look good (IMO). Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 787Oct 16, 2008 8:28 pm Hi VJ, yes you can see the difference between the garage colour & window colour more in some of those... BUT I can't see any joins inthe cladding? Where are they?
What is the rear garage door colour? (Hi kids! ) Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 788Oct 16, 2008 8:33 pm Hi VJ,
Your home really is stunning! I would leave the windows & doors as they are - I just love that colour timber & I think they would blend in to your bricks if you stain them darker. I think it looks fine having your garage darker....but that's just my opinion!! Is one of the joins on the bottom row on the left?? Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 789Oct 16, 2008 8:33 pm I think your home looks great.
I can see the joins on the right hand side, but it is probably because of the light? Hope this one is a better shot (but taken using my DH's mobile), but at least close-up shot: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ if this photo is not enough to show the joins, i will post another one this weekend, this time using our digicam and a close-up shot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Quote: Is one of the joins on the bottom row on the left?? Jo K, you're spot on.. that was the most obvious one, thus, you saw it. but all of 'em have visible joins (from bottom to top!) and Mish spotted the top one... one time, we visited at around 5pm.. they were so obvious! will visit this weekend during that time so we could get a clearer photo. problem is, what if our walk through is in the morning? we can only show the ones to the side of the house (3 visible joins, at least lesser than the ones to the front).. if the walk through sched is in early afternoon (12-2), they won't be that visible. so will have to print a clear photo and bring and show to our SS during walk through. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 794Oct 17, 2008 5:55 am HI VJ, I could only spot one join in the first photo - maybe it will be a good idea to take a photo with you if your inspection is not late in the afternoon.
I can understand what you mean about the garage door not matching the windows - it just looks like a feature on its own now, and works well. Ohh I cant wait for your inside pics Paula Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 795Oct 17, 2008 7:03 am oh I can't see any joins, sorry. Maybe I need my glasses on
I love your facade, I think it's one of the best I've seen. I also like that the garage door is different to your windows/doors etc. But it's your home and you have to live in it. Maybe wait and see until your driveway and landscaping is done, you might grow to like it. Kids look excited to be there. Hope you get your keys soon! Happy at Home Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 796Oct 17, 2008 7:04 am Your house looks beautiful VJ. You should be very proud.
As for the cladding maybe it's because I don't know what I'm looking for but I can't see a join at all. I can see the difference between the window and garage door colour but maybe if it bothers you, you could stain the front windows? Regardless it's beautiful! Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 797Oct 17, 2008 7:23 pm I think your house looks gorgeous - I like the difference in stains between the garage door and the window frames. That's sort of the idea with all of our houses now - to have a variety of finishes, textures and colours isn't it. I think the garage door stain blends well with the bricks.
And all those other things - I can't see them! But, I know we are all more critical and fussy over our own houses and want them to be perfect in every way Built a Clarendon 'Balmain' 2008 Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 798Oct 17, 2008 8:45 pm Thanks everyone again for the nice words...
and for taking your time to look at the joins on our cladding. Looks like I really need to take a close-up shot of the cladding... DH just arrived, there's a bad news.. SS rang this afternoon, they are not going to fix the electrical issues that we raised... I created a separate thread for this... so more people could see it: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=10365 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 799Oct 17, 2008 9:17 pm Hi Vj
I wouldn't worry about your garage door not matching the doors and windows, although I think it works really well together. The garage door works so well with the bricks and cladding, and don't forget, timber changes over time, so the doors and windows will look different over the years. You will have to refinish the timber windows some time in the next couple of years, so maybe put a darker tint or stain in. You see these things now, but once you have moved in, you won't notice them after a while. The house and design is so beautiful that I didn't even see the garage as different from the windows and doors. And you know what, in a year or two if you still don't like it, you can always change the garage door, but I have the feeling that it won't worry you by then. Nothing a change of stain can't fix. Re: Building our dream home.. walls no longer bare! 800Oct 17, 2008 9:50 pm Thanks, photogirl.
That's what most people say.. once you have the keys to the house, you won't even notice the difference between the brown shades of our garage door and timber windows/doors. Ok, we'll just see how it goes.. if we feel that it doesn't really look good after handover, we'll stain it in darker shade. But DH was saying.... it would be hard for him to stain the small window (left side of the house) to our ensuite... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping!
