Re: To security door front entrance or not? 11Jan 19, 2011 3:08 pm I generally don't like the look of security screens on front doors. I've seen a lot of homes with really nice doors, then they put an ugly security screen over it! Of course, you can always add a screen at a later point if you really need one. I personally chose to go with no security screens - and I'll decide later if I want to add one. Building at Warner Lakes in sunny Queensland. Building with Bold Properties. My concern was opening the door to speak to people, not so worried about keeping the door open for air, I can just open windows, alfresco and laundry door! So what we've done is add a video intercom system, so when someone rings the door bell, I can see who it is and speak to them without even going anywhere near the front door Re: To security door front entrance or not? 13Jan 19, 2011 3:41 pm Our current house that we have lived in for 13 years has no front screen door. Therefore I have NEVER been able to open them and have fresh air (and more light!) come through. In my new house - it was IMPERATIVE for me to have a screen door after having lived without one for sooo long (and we went with a plain front door knowing it would be covered up) and personally we can't wait to be able to open our new front door in our new house and let the breeze, views and light come through! But that's just us - everyone is different Good luck with your decision Re: To security door front entrance or not? 14Jan 22, 2011 3:01 pm Cazoraz, letting fresh air in your house, is one of the most important things you can do for living comfortably in your home in my opinion. Air movement doesn't work as well unless you have doors opened from the front and the rear, otherwise it takes effort for it to come in through only one door. I don't particularly like the look of screen doors and I agree they don't look pretty, however you can get the stainless steel mesh doors for example "Invisi-gard" and you can see through themvery well if you want to, or you have a nice front door. They're also one of the most secure screen doors you can buy. I'll be installing one of these, and they can powdercoat the frame in amost any colour you like, for example the same as the frame woodwork, and your front door, so you won't notice it so much. I wouldn't get a restricted vision door again unless you really need it for privacy. And restricted vision doesn't work well at night anyway. If you get a door like the invisigard then you can still see your front door well, and blend it in to your front door colour. I've seen it on many houses even with a timber coloured frame to match a timber front door. Re: To security door front entrance or not? 16Jan 23, 2011 3:42 pm emlet01 I love the look of the fancy front door with no security screen but at the end of the day the house we are building is to live in, not look at! I agree - I can't imagine being home and not having the front door open - both for breeze and to be welcoming! But then we also choose to live in an area with a relaxed and open feel to it - I might feel a whole heap different about having the door open if we lived in the middle of a major city... Re: To security door front entrance or not? 17Jan 23, 2011 6:40 pm I've lived in a house for 18 years with no security door. Despite having a nice front door we're having a security door mainly to stop the dog from running out when someone comes to the door. We're also having a security door on one of our sliders with a dog door built in. When the salesman said it was amazing what pet owners spent on their pets, we told him it was for us so we didn't become the dog's doorman. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: To security door front entrance or not? 18Jan 23, 2011 7:14 pm We put a security door on our front door after we were burgled (they jemmied the back doors and tried to jemmy the front door to get out but could not). We love having the security door as get the breeze through and can see and talk to visitors without having to open the door. Our front door does not face the street. We are about to do a reno so blocking up existing front door and putting in a new front door that will face the street so we need to decide whether to go with a security door or not. As the door faces the street, we not get the screen but get a video intercom as mentioned by one poster. Does anyone have those security holes so you can see through the front door? Alternative is to have a side pane with a window I guess. The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
