Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 441May 06, 2011 11:29 am Hi, yes we are having the door and front windows varnished as per the display as that was in our contract guide and we like it. I'm sure you can have whatever door/colour you want - it may just be an extra/lesser cost. You shouldn't go next week if you are undecided - it will take forever. You must make your decisions and stick to them - it's the best feeling after the selections appointment because you know you can't change your mind - well you can but it will cost you! What are you having problems with? For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 442May 06, 2011 12:22 pm i do love the doors as displayed. but im thinking id rather privacy, so we could get the glass opaque, but at the same time i also like to see out. i have seen a house (i think it was a medallion at lightsview) and the door glass was opaque and the side glass panels were clear, so i thought i could have a shutter on the side panel, so i can have privacy when i need and can see out also. i originally wanted the really dark wood colour shutters for the front 6 windows, but if i have a shutter next to the door the colour wont match. i dont know if the shutters come in a colour that would match the front door, if i go that way i would have to change the colour of the shutters in the bedroom and lounge room, so it matches on the outside Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 443May 06, 2011 12:26 pm Oh Gawd it gets worse - so many decisions!! We went for frosted so we won't be able to see out apart from the retreat window but I love the way the light comes in through the glass so didn't want shutters etc. What about having a thin venetian blind in the glass next to the door so it's not the same as the shutters (they might be too heavy in that space anyway - I saw a pic on here of someone who had done that and it looked very clunky). Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 444May 06, 2011 12:31 pm Make sure you double check your sidelight widths - we got caught out on this. We thought yes get clear and put a blind or shutter on it. It turned out that the window was far too narrow to do anything with, so we ended up getting opaque film installed ! Now that its all done, I prefer the opaque, lets in all the light but gives privacy. You do lose the ability to see who's at the door (so need a peep hole or security door). Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 445May 06, 2011 12:31 pm Oh, forgot to add - dead sexy doors Annette Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 446May 06, 2011 12:33 pm Good point! Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 447May 06, 2011 2:28 pm I agree totally about going opaque, my current house has two sidelights in frosted glass and I wouldn't have it any other way, with clear, true you can see out but others can also see in. There's been many a time when I have been glad that a person at the door (ususally salespersons) couldn't see me but I can check if it is someone I know by looking out the bedroom window. Haven't got around to getting a peep hole but definately a good idea. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 448May 06, 2011 2:36 pm dreamcometrue true you can see out but others can also see in Yes, no nudie runs to the washing basket with clear glass Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 449May 07, 2011 3:53 pm https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Building the McLaren by Dechellis 450May 07, 2011 3:59 pm WHAT? Re: Building the McLaren by Dechellis 453May 09, 2011 3:11 pm Wild Orchid, I too have the opaque glass on the sides and also in the glass panels in the door. I love the way that it lets the light in but no one can see down my hallway (especially since I often do the nude run to make a cup of tea in the morning!). We have now decided to put a screen door on the front as, like many others, we couldnt see who was at the front door. DH didnt like that. Security door will be here in about 2-3 weeks so will post some pictures when it comes. ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! I suppose that is a consideration - it's nice to know who's there before you open the door! Carpenters have also started the second fix and we had a call from the kitchen place today confirming the size we wanted for the fridge space so that can't be far off - getting excited I promise to take some pics on the weekend of the sexxxxxy door and handle and the render.
