Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 01, 2012 8:54 pm The wonderful Jodge has drawn up some plans for our WIR. The robe is behind the bed with an entrance either side, the Long back wall is 4.5m and the short wall is 2.4m, with aircon droppers either side. Originally I wanted doors on everything so that when you walked into the room you couldn't see clothes hanging but I don't have enough depth only 560 instead of 600 as I have a window in there, so compromised with doors/drawers on the ends, (sheleves behind the doors) then open hangin/shelves in the middle. On the short wall we have a PowerPoint in the middle so we can use it as a makeup/dressing area if need be. The wardrobe will be custom made and we will be having matching bedside tables made. Now I personally don't have lots of shoes or dresses but we are stil wanting to build this to cater for the majority, not sure if we need more long hanging space, more shelves for shoes etc. Opinions please Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 3Jun 01, 2012 9:13 pm Looks good Gogo although the long hanging space wouldn't be anywhere near enough for us....coats, dresses, long tops etc I'd probably have what you have x 2 (one for each of you) Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 4Jun 01, 2012 9:20 pm I'M JEALOUS Our WIR is bigger than our last house, but not by much. Its 1.5x1.8. We plan to fit it out too. I dont think you need doors for the hanging space anyway as its hidden from the bedroom. Because you have lots of shelves maybe a tad more long hanging space? Built in shoe racks are great! Are they on the short side down the bottom? It will be so organized in there. Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 5Jun 01, 2012 9:31 pm Gogo it really depends how you store your clothes.we hang a lot of stuff (eg t-shirts, pullovers) so we have more hanging space. Very few long things though - coats and posh stuff go in the spare bedroom robe so this would work for us. You could fit some more shoe shelves at the bottom of the long hanging bit. Have you a actually measured the amount of rail you currently use and counted the drawers where you are living now. This should tell you whether this is enough. JLD Looks good Gogo although the long hanging space wouldn't be anywhere near enough for us....coats, dresses, long tops etc I'd probably have what you have x 2 (one for each of you) Yeah thinking maybe swapping out one of the double hanging rails for a full length, at the moment I have 8 half hanging, that would leave me with 6 half hanging and two full hanging . dazandstace I'M JEALOUS Our WIR is bigger than our last house, but not by much. Yep planning the short side shelves as shoe racks, maybe put another shoe rack shelf under the long hanging Or should I swap and have shelves up top and hanging below on short side and swap long side to have shelves below for shoes and hanging high. I only own less than ten pairs of shoes, I'm hopeless, an embarrassment to the female race Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 7Jun 01, 2012 9:36 pm PS4314 Gogo it really depends how you store your clothes.we hang a lot of stuff (eg t-shirts, pullovers) so we have more hanging space. That's my problem, I won't fill it We currently have three drawers each and about 1.5m of hanging space each the only thing not in our wardrobe is our ski jackets etc We do hang most things, gym clothes etc in drawers, have more drawers than I need but figure it balances everything out and really like the middle bit on the short wall with mirror etc Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 8Jun 01, 2012 9:38 pm gogo65 ::hyst:: I only own less than ten pairs of shoes, I'm hopeless, an embarrassment to the female race I can't think of a better excuse to go and buy more Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 9Jun 01, 2012 9:39 pm One of the things our wardrobe guy said is that shoe shelves take up a lot of room. S he suggested we only have a few shoe shelves for the shoes we wear regularly and then put the others in clear boxes on the top shelf. Initially I thought this was crazy but actually when I thought about it I really do only wear 3 or 4 pairs regularly. So went for more hanging space and less shoe storage. Was posting the same time as you and just read your difficulty. Yeah that's what I sort of meant when I said have 6 short two long, swap thos around, so it still looks balanced, Poor jodge and I are the same, not many clothes or shoes, so need real women to guide us When I sell this house I want the woman to buy it for the kitchen and the WIRz Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 14Jun 01, 2012 9:48 pm Meh- I wear shorts, t shirts & Birkenstocks to work...wardrobe fitouts for my own use aren't relevant! They fit 12 pairs of shoes so you would be able to buy yourself a couple of new pairs just so you could have it full!!!!! It looks really neat and, for some reason, expensive. Let me know if you'd like me to visit to get a pic for you. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/80171875/ Anyway, consider a trip to ikea! I have 2 of the trouser hangers similar to these for our WIR. Might be worth considering: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40171877/ For me the amount of long hanging you have would be enough but maybe you could consider having it divided the way it is in the drawing and just leaving out one of the bottom rails until you decide if you need it. Re: Walk in robe layout -opinions please 18Jun 01, 2012 10:02 pm Hello twin, when I saw that you posted I thought she will either be like me or the complete opposite. Those shoe racks look good maybe they could go under the long hanging but will be brilliant in our garage where most of our shoes live, Good point about leaving the rail out if we need more long hanging, they will most likely be adjustable/removable shelves.
