Re: Heywood 25 by PD - Landscaping DAY 5/6 Progress Pics 22May 10, 2011 11:45 am thegourou20 Sir Snagger That concrete work down the side and out the back is pretty cool. The kitchen area looks like it's gonna be a good little feature! I hope so and the main reason for it is to actually keep any frying or messy cooking outside together with any associated smell. lol So, last week they have managed to finish the frame of the verandah together with the decking. God I cannot express how happy I am with the end result. It has also passed the frame inspection from the council point of view so hopefully the roof and guttering will be going on this week. I have ended up selecting the laserlite 3000 with metal bronze tint to go with it what do you guys think? 1. Verandah + Decking Overview Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2. In the meantime, the works for the outdoor kitchen has started and I have also manage to organise the pizza oven so that it is ready to be delivered when the bench has been built to accomodate for it. The landscaper has asked me how I would like it to be finished like in terms of rendering or tiling and I was not sure at this stage. If you have any suggestions, please share it with me. 3. So far, I have manage to get the zeolite, spongolite and bactivate. I know already where to get the pierlite as it was suggested on another thread and also it is not that far away from where I live at the moment so everything is coming together nicely. 4. Just wondering (of all the random questions) how you found the price of exposed aggregate and the stone impression compared.. We were thinking of having the exposed aggregate all around the back of our hosue too, but that looks great! Thank Wertmezer. Well, my situation is not be a good comparison to be used as a reference. Why? Because I was quoted to do the slate impression everywhere at a standard rate of $85/m2. Then, the concreter advised me it would be better from an aesthetic point of view that it would be better to keep the front in exposed aggregate to match the driveway that was already poured about a year ago now. Hence, he offered to do the exposed for the same rate (i.2 $85/m2). As a measure of comparison, I paid $110/m2 for my driveway when it was done. Both rates included one coat of sealant. just Erin wow love what you've been up to! love the pattern on the concreting, and the outdoor kitchen idea is fantastic! Thanks for your kind words Erin. That's the pattern I always wanted from day 1. Initially, I wanted to use actual crazy paving but due to excessive cost implications I went with this version. But I am still happy with the end result. Since you are an ace at decorating, what do you type of finish do you think the kitchen bench should be? I am talking about the bench only. It will more likely to be rendered but then I got choices of tiles, stackstone (not sure if it would be included in the price quoted...lol), pebble mesh, etc. Sir Snagger Excellent work. And on the pizza oven...I reckon rendered. Holds better over time than tiles. They seem to get an aged, weathered look about them, and I reckon render would be easier to rejuvinate in the future. Thanks Snags! The pizza oven comes already rendered in a sandstone creamy colour. I am more after some advice on how to finish the kitchen bench itself. Any tips? :-l Team PD Hi Thegourou20, Fantastic photos of your build, the porch is looking really great. I'm looking forward to seeing more photo's in the future, particularly of your garden idea's. You will be able to use your vegetables on your pizzas soon and perhaps you could share your recipes. Keep us posted. Cheers, Ebony Thanks Ebony. Well, first pizza dough I tried was from the Masterchef recipe of the previous season. It is actually very easy to follow and does taste nice. I found the hardest part is to roll out the dough without the use of a rolling pin as apparently it takes the air out of the dough hence it will not be as fluffy. :-l Anyways, a little update about the kitchen bench. The sides have been rendered and we actually decided to go with a little border of pieces of stone that comes on a mesh rather than stackstone as it turned out we would only get 2-3 rows if we were to go otherwise. The colour we chose for the render was "Clay bake" from the dulux range. Hum, the tiles also have been cut but not grouted yet. The landscaper (his name is Geoff not sure if I introduced him or not...lol) has also already made the wooden doors which will hopefully go by the end of this week. To tell you the truth, I only get to check what he did when I come home which is usually quite late. From what I can see in the dark, I am not that happy with my colour selection. But, I am hoping i will be proved wrong when it comes to daylight. Hopefully, I will learn to like it with time...hahaha. If you don't mind me asking how much did the laserlite cost for the roofing? Do you find you don't get as much light through those doors and window now that you have a roof surrounding it?? Thank you Flaggy. Hum, it is hard for me to say how much it costed me for the laserlite roofing only as it was part of the package I paid for the posts/rafters/ledgers & roofing. All up I was charged around 6k installed as per pictures. However, I knew he got it from Stratco (the deer park store located not far from us along Ballarat road). I rang them for you and this is what the lady I spoke to told me. The laserlites come in 762 mm wide and you can get any lengths up to 6m. I also got some prices and here what she said: 1. Laserlite 2000 - 762 mm x 2400 mm = $ 46.80 2. Laserlite 3000 - 762 mm x 2400 mm = $ 50.44 For the extra few dollars the laserlite 3000 are totally worth it as it reduces the glare and keeps you cooler underneath, which is handy in summer. If you go there you can see a quite a few different types on a shed outside at the front and compare what's better for you. That's what we did anyways. As for how much light it reduces, it is really hard to tell as the weather has not been great lately. But we can barely notice that the amount of light getting in has been drastically reduced if that's what you wanted to know. Cool, this is the main thing I was worried about, summertime would be fine, but more worried we won't get enough sun in the lounge room during winter.
