Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 09, 2011 4:13 pm Hi, this is my first post but have been following posts for a month or so. I feel I need a little or your expert advice. I am not building but extending our home so I have the problem of having to work with things we already have. Although the extension is at the back of the house we are going to render the entire house. We currently have following: Roof - dark grey/black tiles (bit faded) Bricks - pale cream (not a yellow cream) Gutters & downpipes - pale cream Garage Doors - pale cream The render colour I am hoping to have is Solver Stones Throw. At this stage we are not looking at changing the garage doors due to $$$. My dilema is what colour to choose for gutters & downpipes. I know they should not be a feature but do we try & tie in the garage doors colour with gutters & downpipes or do we either try to match gutters/downpipes to the roof colour or render? Any help would be appreciated. Thx in advance Re: Help with external colours 2Jan 09, 2011 6:19 pm I'm no expert but your house seems to be all cream baring the roof. There is a house near us that is very similar to the colours you describe and it looks funny. I would Do the gutters a dark colour to match the roof. As for pipes I prefer them to be hidden and not a feature at all but some houses with contrasting colours for the down pipes look really good. Do you have a photo of your facade? Re: Help with external colours 3Jan 09, 2011 11:25 pm Thanks for your reply Dollar. I don't have a photo as yet but can try & get one. I just worry that once rendered in Stones Throw which is a brownish grey colour, that the garage doors will be the only thing that is cream & think that may look odd.... Re: Help with external colours 4Jan 10, 2011 9:41 am Could you match the garage door to the garage brick/render colour? That's what we did but looking around most people match the garage door to something different-like their windows/roof etc. What are the exact bricks you are getting and what parts will be rendered? The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1618 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated. Also thanks for the pointer on sheathing, thats me watching too many american youtube videos! 6 2813 Before you rip it up, if you can in the grout lines, drill some holes and pour/inject techgrip by sika.
