Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 09, 2011 11:49 am Just wondering what is the general consensus is out there. Hubby and I are in the planning stages of a 2 storey home which we will be OB in Yangebup - the finished product is more than likely going to be 600m2 plus. We are planning to make this our forever family home so basically we are hoping to build once and build it right. My concern is whether or not to render the entire house, render the front and leave the rest exposed brick (in a neutral tone), or go brick on the whole house with no render. Our concerns are mainly with price and upkeep - I have seen some homes built in the last 5 years that are already showing signs of cracking and fading and have been told that with a texture finish we will need to give it another going over within 15-20 years of building. We love the look of texture finish - and let's face it, it is very fashionable at the moment. Also like the look of brick but not sure if this will look dated. Any opinions? Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. —Albert Einstein Re: To render or not to render - that is the question... 2Jan 09, 2011 12:21 pm Has been discussed a few time. On the up-side its good because the paint seals your bricks which are porous. I would go for a good face brick and never have to worry about up-keep again. If you have your heart set on render think about bagging - it will crack as well but is much easier to fix and the look while probably not quite as good is similar.
