Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 24, 2010 11:15 am Hello forum members! Finally got around to my first post on this forum and just thought I would check to see if anyone has done a KDRB in Chatswood? I am just about to embark on the project and trying to avoid messing it up My block slopes around 2m across the building area right to left and back to front so its not going to be an easy one. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. bye for now! Re: Sloping block KDRB in chatswood 2Dec 24, 2010 11:29 am Now that sounds like fun! I trust you have lots of hair or none, ...the latter is probably preferable, because I figure you will have pulled most of it out by the end of the KDRbuild. Deep pockets prolly another heads up. Wrecking stuff in the confinds of the streets will be testing, but rebuilding will be more testing if you don't have a lot of space as a 'laydown' area is really helpful. Have you got any idea of design or materials and what length of time do you consider to be fair for construction? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Sloping block KDRB in chatswood 3Dec 24, 2010 12:06 pm Going for brick veneer, I was interested in exploring some alternatives however it was difficult to find anyone who would even return my calls. We are still trying to crystallise the design but from what we have at the moment it looks like we should have the project completed in roughly 11 months from now. Hopefully that's not too optimistic Block size is just over 500sqm so I am hoping I won't have too much trouble with the lay down area. The other thing I am interested in is selling the existing dwelling (built roughly 100 years ago). I was thinking of "ebaying" it in the hope that some of the old floorboards, cornice, kitchen, fireplace etc would be of interest to someone out there. onc_artisan Now that sounds like fun! Re: Sloping block KDRB in chatswood 4Dec 24, 2010 12:22 pm hehe yep an 'out they go sale' is there any garden to speak of? Sometimes there are plants( roses and trees(ferns, palms, etc) that have a value. Recycling the building material is a good idea and exactly what a demolition firm would do. Can you incorporate any of it into your new build? 100 years old I guess not... 'cept the floor boards I guess. Will it be 2 level or split tri level, single. Are you west or east of P hwy... Re: Sloping block KDRB in chatswood 5Dec 24, 2010 12:33 pm Thanks for the tip on the garden, there are quite a few plants there that are apparently desirable and were going to be trashed, not anymore! I am going for a 4 bdr + study tri level design that maps(ish) to the natural contours and will provide an opportunity for a grand entrance, high ceilings here and there etc. I am in chatswood west, roughly 5 mins walk from the station, great location. onc_artisan hehe yep an 'out they go sale' is there any garden to speak of? Re: Sloping block KDRB in chatswood 7Dec 24, 2010 12:49 pm Not quite high enough for views inland unfortunately, maybe a glimpse from the top but not worth spending any money on. Definitely going for the passive solar design, including a automatic outside air intake for the air con system i've been working on. Both houses either side are of similar vintage as the current dwelling which is a shame , perhaps i will spur them on to a KDRB project throughout my process. onc_artisan any views inland?
