Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 04, 2007 9:04 pm Hi there,
We just had our slab poured today and I guess I am just curious as to how long they let it 'sit' before they start building the frame. Is there a certain time frame - i.e. weeks or anything. Just anxious for the frame to start Thanks Nicole Re: How long does the slab sit for??? 2Dec 04, 2007 10:02 pm hi Wanting i wouldnt know how long a slab is supposed sit before a frame is started, in our case we had our slab poured last tues or wed and they said they were going to start framing today. Re: How long does the slab sit for??? 3Dec 05, 2007 6:18 am we had to wait (what felt like a very long) 4 weeks for our slab to cure as we are building double brick. there are a couple of other discussions about this in the forum. try and search the topic for some more info (near top right of screen)
Helen Re: How long does the slab sit for??? 4Dec 05, 2007 7:25 am From what I can gather, it takes about 4 weeks for a slab to reach full strength, with most of it occuring in the first week.
If you're putting up a frame the weight is not that great so you can proceed after a few days. However, if you're puttign up a brick wall you need to wait the full 4 weeks. You also need to keep the slab moist for a while to prevent cracking and achieve maximum strength.
