Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 12, 2010 9:02 am We are unsure whether to book someone like handovers.com for our PCI. We didn't use them last time and there was nothing that concerned us, however we used them for our 6 month inspection and they found quite a bit of stuff that we had never noticed was wrong (or would not have realised was wrong!). They are pretty expensive, so I'm not sure whether it is worth getting them in? Or is it cheaper to use a different company? Any recommendations for Brisbane area? Thanks! If they picked up faults the first time around it would be wise to have another experienced set of eyes going over your new home to make sure its up to standard Re: Is it worth getting an independent inspection at handove 3Dec 12, 2010 4:34 pm Hi, I would be getting an inspection. Even if you don't believe there is anything wrong with the home, its worth it for peace of mind. Its a small cost compared to the money you have spent on the home. Personally, I have no intentions of getting into the roof space to check out insulation etc. Would prefer to leave it to someone who knows what they are looking for. Good luck with PCI. Our brief walk around the house found a few problems already so I want to know it is all good and at least if an independent inspector does the list our builder fixes without question (well they did last time so I hope it is the same!!). Thanks for the input!! Just make sure you get one from someone who is actually qualified to give an inspection. Contact the Building Commission and ask them for a contact. IMO that would be a good place to start. Being a builder is more than just having once held a hammer. It's about the trades you hire and ensuring that they give a result that meets the industry standard and the home owners expectations. Re: Is it worth getting an independent inspection at handove 6Dec 30, 2010 8:21 pm Thanks very much for the tip. I had no idea where to even find a qualified inspector. Thanks! I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81883 It is true that a builder can ignore your independent inspection report as it is not part of the contractual arrangement but that is stupid because he cannot avoid fixing… 9 46854 In fairness nobody gave a crap about the ACCC and the gag clauses continued in the pro forma templates of a few other builders after the ACCC took on Wisdom, and more… 19 73443 |
