Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 09, 2010 3:33 pm Hi gang, I am seeking advice from those who have a heat pump hot water system, as we have been advised that a solar hot water system might not be appropriate for our build. The problem being we have a long house (33m) with long lengths of pipework, we are on bottled gas and rainwater tanks are our only source of potable water. A heat pump with ring main has been recommended as an alternative that will avoid water wastage and ensure we have hot water delivered to both ends of the house. My question is are these units noisy? The pamphlets say they are no louder than an airconditioner, but as we live in a nice quiet bush setting, I am concerned we would hear the drone of the pump all the time. Anycomments/thoughts/experiences would be really helpful. There has been a recall on Rheem and Everhot too, for vibration. I've read some negative reviews which makes me nervous but then generally the only people who will review a product tend to be those with negative experiences. We're also on bottled gas and the heat pump seemed a more viable option than the others. Re: Advice on heat pump hot water system 5Dec 10, 2010 12:22 pm We had a heat pump in our spec - took it out and went for solar with gas boost. Don't know enough about them, and don't know anyone who has one to get feedback from. Have seen a few negative reports re noise. Would you have to run 2 units since your house is so long? Re: Advice on heat pump hot water system 6Dec 10, 2010 2:46 pm Thanks for your replies We would only have to run one as we will have a ring main in the ceiling with a pump circulating the water around the house. Its true zircon, often it is only the negative reviews that you see. It doesn't give a true reflection of the product, but is still something to consider. I might drop you a pm after Jan to see what your thoughts are, as we will only just be getting our slab end of Jan so have a little bit of time to sort it out. I can't give any feedback because we haven't used ours yet, but I got talked into a heat pump by the HWS salesperson. I'm really hoping what he told me re electricity savings with the heat pump is true! In our case, the additional cost of solar didn't pay for itself over the lifetime of the system, but I didn't factor in electricity price rises (and in hindsight I should have). As far as noise goes, they are meant to be the same as an external compressor for an airconditioner, so with careful placement of your HWS it shouldn't bother you. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 12347 18 90420 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
