Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Ceiling Height 2Dec 05, 2010 10:35 pm We went for higher Ceilings because we were advised by someone else it is worth getting them, and do not regret getting them. Ours are 9ft high. It is also something you have to decide before you build because you can't do it later, unlike things like upgrading bathroom, kitchen etc. The advantages of them is they make the rooms look a lot bigger than the actual extra space you are putting in them by the higher ceilings. They also seem to make the place cooler by having more space for the hot air to go (But then again in Brisbane it has been quite mild so far since we have moved in, so hard to tell for sure) The disadvantages are - When you go putting up the Christams tree you have had previous years, and it looks really small in comparision. Luckily this w/e Target had 40% off trees, so we were able to fix that issue. Also more annoying if you have to change lights because you need a step ladder and you just can't reach up and change them. Personally I think if you get them you will not regret it. If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: Ceiling Height 3Dec 06, 2010 8:21 am Lots and lots of threads on this topic if you do a search, here is a recent one. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36846&hilit=higher+ceilings I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Ceiling Height 4Dec 07, 2010 8:38 am Hi, I would recommend at least 2700mm ceiling height if you are able to do it. This as mentioned above gives a much more roomy feel to any room but also a big factor in Qld is to accommodate ceiling fans. The fans are far more effective at a higher height. We have just done our place in Norman Park with 3.0m (10ft). This gives a very grand feel to the place. Re: Ceiling Height 5Dec 07, 2010 8:45 am There is no doubt, high ceilings are gorgeous, make the place feel bigger and indeed help in summer. On the flip side, cost more to heat. 2.6m - 2.8m are great sizes that are also affordable. We were forced to have 2.4 on the second story of our place due to building height restrictions, definately feels smaller/clostrophobic in comparison to the ground floor. On the flip side, cost more to heat. One way to help counter this is to have ceiling fans that have the reverse setting, on low they will push the warm air down when the heating is on.
