Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 01, 2010 3:48 pm Hi All, You've probably heard stories of items being stolen from construction sites - maybe you've been victim to this yourself. Here's an idea that can help reduce the crime and theft that occurs around building sites and estates. I know many of you who are building regularly visit your site - either during the day or after hours, and for those who have finished building and moved in, you're probably living near other construction sites. Well let me encourage you: If you're visiting your construction site (no matter what time of day or night), have a drive (or walk) around the area past other houses - make note of any suspicious activity you may see. It's not uncommon to see tradies on sites at various times, but *if you see tradies removing anything from site* (that includes steel framing from slabs!), you should be suspicious. You are well within your right to ask them who they are & who they work for. I would also encourage you to take note of any license plate of any vehicle seen removing any items from a site. It may even be worth sending a quick email or a phone call to the builder (assuming their sign is displayed) to let them know what you have seen. Better to be over cautious! All it takes is a few of these scum to get caught or spooked by people asking what they're doing, and we'll see a drastic decline in this theft. Keep in mind theft can occur in broad daylight, not just at night. Be vigilant - not only for your own site, but for others, and keep an eye open. It's like a huge neighbourhood watch scheme Any other suggestions would be welcome. I'm going to visit my site tonight, and I'll be patrolling the nearby stages, keeping an eye out for any vehicles of persons on site Hopefully this helps. I agree, don't challenge them, just take their regio number. Rebar is expensive so I think maybe a 4x2.
