Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 29, 2010 8:14 am Hi All
Thought I would submit my own thread to talk about what we are doing. My wife and I decided after we returned from our Honeymoon in May 2010, that we should buy a new, bigger home before we begin trying for a family. After a short time searching established homes, we decided that we were not happy with 'settling' for designs other people had chosen. As I said earlier we figured since we have no children, and no other real committments besides the house we had. We thought we'd sell up an build. We initially put a block on hold at Seaford Meadows. However I work in the City, and I know that the Train line is getting extended but it just seemed too far. We found out about Field River, after it was already sold out. Ever time a block fell over, we jumped straight on the phone and missed out on every single one. Until a block from Stage 2 fell over, it was a 873sqm block, which was much bigger than we thought we'd go, but thought what the hell. I called the agent 5 times before getting trhough to her to find that it had already been put on hold. I put us on back up hold. The agent called me back 10 minutes later, saying the people literally just called and said the block was too big for them. A rough road laid ahead but its all turning up roses now. And basically here we are. Below is the plans that are now approved by council, split free plans where approved 12/11/2010 only 1 month after being submitted. That alone feels like a lotto win. Now we play the waiting game. Block photos and selection photos to follow in the next few days. As we were not expecting it until the new year. Just about every person in Field River had to had additional planning (ie add in splits) so when our plans had been submitted for 1 month and there was still no additional planning. We were expecting it was going to be a long road. But then all of a sudden it flipped to approved. Which we couldnt believe we got without any additional planning. Carswil, the Ensuite was a big factor in picking this house design we figured if you build a house this big, you can't have a broom cupboard ensuite Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 9Jan 19, 2011 8:16 am Builders interview today!!! What are some of the things people forgot to get done in their builders interview... so far I have. *Glass either side of front door *Permanent Water line behind fridge *Permanent Gas line in Alfresco *Ensure I have Range Hood provision, microwave provision and dishwasher provision for powerpoints *Confirm move of man hole to garage (wasnt originally) *Ensure I dont want extra lights somewhere. Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 11Jan 21, 2011 9:08 am Hi laura 2009, yeah it went ok, was a little dissapointed they were not willing to move the manhole into the garage because apparently trademen hide tools and other stuff in the ceiling during construction, i dont see how thats my concern, but ohh well. I'm just going to get a drop ladder and roof supports installed in the garage for storage, so I dare say I can just cut a new hole and frame it and then I end up with two roof accesses, nothing wrong with that Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 12Jan 22, 2011 9:22 am Thought I better start giving people some pic-fixes first display is external choices. Will follow this post later today with internal choices. I assumed it was structural thing, not a bloody convenience issue for them. They are so *. Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 14Mar 09, 2011 12:15 pm FINANCE APPROVED!!! ABOUT FREAKING TIME.............. perhaps we'll start getting some action on this forum now Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 15Mar 09, 2011 1:19 pm Yay! Congrats on getting your finance approved. I'm also building with Fairmont so I'll be interested to see how you go with them. Great floor plan! It looks huge. Love the family living area and the bedroom design - that ensuite looks like a great size. Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 16Mar 09, 2011 1:24 pm Love the plan (I'm with you on the ensuite - you have to treat yourself sometimes!!) - the block looks great - look forward to following your progress!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 17Mar 15, 2011 1:27 pm Hi there, Just wondering how it was all going? We're building the Salerno too (in Glenelg North) and our slab goes down on Thursday - yippee! Be interesting to see how urs looks compared to ours as it's the same house, but totally different colour scheme. Ours is also flipped like yours. Have you made any other modifications to the plan? Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 18Mar 15, 2011 7:10 pm Hi, I talked to Fairmont today, they said our letter for work commencement had been issued to a footings contractor today. Now we are waiting until they fit us in The only changes we made (lovely plan didnt need much) was I added a beer garden alfresco to the side courtyard outside the meal. Where I want wine barrells and rustic metal bar stools. Also to stop people walking across the carpet in the formal (front) lounge, rest of the house (excluding bedrooms) is going to be tiles. To make people follow the entrance hallway and not cut across. We changed the back opening on the front lounge from 2400mm to 900mm. So people can still use it to go find the toilet, but thats it. Also we added a tv bulkhead to the back family. No real other changes besides that.... How about yourself. We wish we added a store room, but oh well, can always add a shed later. Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 19Mar 20, 2011 12:02 pm Congrats on the letter of work commencement..great news We also thought the design was great and didn't change that much. We made the front loungeroom a bit more private by removing that back entranceway and making the side doorway smaller with sliding doors, so we can use it as a home theatre. We also removed the low wall separating the meals area and games area to open it all up a bit more. The kitchen island is also flat instead of having a raised part. I noticed your having the slab in the alfresco area laid by Fairmont also? We're actually planning to put a deck there instead. We also raised the ceiling height to 2700mm and added a spa to the ensuite. It is all very exciting and I look forward to following your thread closely Re: 1st Build - Field River Estate - Salerno with Fairmont H 20Mar 21, 2011 9:45 am Yes slab to alfresco Oh I forgot we change breakfast bar on island bench to flat as well. Raised is a bit out dated. And we also changed the shower in the ensuite to 1200 x 900 instead of the standard 900 by 900. We were thinking of making the bath in the ensuite spa. But we are big entertainers and we are going to get an 8 seater spa in the alfresco area. So thought it might be a waist of money paying for 2 spas Funny you should say you closed in the front lounge to make it into a home theatre. That was our biggest ummm and arrrrr point in the whole floorplan. We couldnt make up our mind over it.... to tell you the truth each day we still discuss it, one day we think we did the right thing, the next we wish we changed it lol. Ohhhhh well. Lovely house, either way shouldnt matter too much Sorry! I'm new to this forum and have made a mistake in my posting! I'm looking for a structural solution to a stand alone wooden pickets fence with no structural rail… 1 3290 Hi there, We’ve recently had plans approved to add a 1st storey addition to our existing house for a growing family in Sydney. With the current cost of building… 0 4296 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34269 |
