The NAB stuffed it (no surprises there) and they didnt include our Pre Start Variations so they are ammending that as we speak. Settlement is due on our land on Tuesday the 14th. I will upload my new plans when I get them at the end of the week!! But my pre start is tomorrow and I found this site today! But, taking is as much comments I can get from here.. I am with affordable living too and building a cottage block. Building at Bletchley Park, WA with Blue Print Homes Re: Building Virgin - Highbury Park Baldivis (Affordable Liv 24Dec 22, 2010 10:33 am Hi Alibaba My only advice I can give you is to know what you want, get it priced privately before hand and stick to your budget. That way you have some idea what to do if the prices are ridiculous. But like I said earlier Affordable Living are quite reasonable. There will be so much stuff you dont even realise you have forgotten, but dont worry they will tell you. My prestart advisor was Brooke and she was lovely. What design are you building and where are you building it? If you get a chance you should post your plans or start your own thread, people on here are fabulous and will give you so much advice. Dont forget to check out the "Things I Forgot" forum. I got most of my ideas for prestart from there. Is this your first home? Affordable Living have been fantastic with us, it's our bank that is the problem. Big thumbs down for the NAB but unfortunately due to our situation we have to bank with them!
Charged us stamp duty though we are FHO (luckily we had the extra money to cover it) Called on the day of settlement to advise me I had 90 minutes to get our $80 000 deposit together or our land wouldnt settle (we bank with 4 different banks too) Didnt give us any account numbers or tell us who to make cheques to When I asked them to send our settlement and finance papers to the builder they sent a blank email with no attachment and then sent the wrong thing Didnt give us the banking consultants direct number so I had to call the 13 number to be on hold for long waiting periods Basically just USELESS!! Yes, I have read through the "Things I forgot" forum and it was absolutely fantastic. My pre start is in a couple of hours. =( So, I might put up the plans later on. I am building a cottage block. Everything is moving so fast, couldn't be happier. Went to the Home Base Expo and purchased our Bamboo Floors today. They are Engineered Compresses Bamboo Floors in "Coffee". We received a discount of $1200 for buying them at the expo. It cost $7800 for 66sqm installed. Very happy with that (evens out to about $118 per sqm.) Also waiting on quotes for our blinds and curtains from the expo, we have decided to put curtains in the master bedroom (cant believe how expensive curtains are, its going to be about $2000 for the bedroom) and block out blinds on the rest of the windows, the windows in the bathroom will be acryllic coated roller blinds, I cant stand those tacky aluminium ones. Costing about $2500-$3000 for the rest of the house. Anyway here are the first pictures of the progress at site and our timber flooring sample. We will now be heading to site every Sunday to check on progress, I'll be posting regular updates. The builders are doing a fabulous job. I was a bit devastated they won't let me make any changes (apparently you can't make any after to pre-start, even though my old consultant was letting me) I forgot to take out the shower hobs, so I guess it means we will have to do a bit of a reno when the house is complete. It's funny that I have stumbled across someone else building in Highbury Park & it seems that we are the same age!!! Anyways, I hope everything continues to run smoothly Re: Building Virgin - Highbury Park Baldivis (Affordable Liv 34Feb 24, 2011 3:33 pm Hi Nicky, Just found your thread - lots of good information for other newbies. One thing I did think of that you may not have thought of is raising the benches in the kitchen - standard height is 900mm so we went to 930mm and it didn't cost anything - bonus Shouldn't be too late to see if you can change if you want to as they just increase the height of the kicker. Your pot drawers look expensive - ours were $106 each or there was a soft closing version for $270 (a bit rich). Good luck with the rest of your build - I'll enjoy seeing it all come together. Lucky you Krysti for being at handover, it seems like a lifetime away for us!! Have you noticed the terrible bore water stains in Highbury Park, its broken my heart and looks disgusting. I have already lodged a complaint with the land estate owners but they "refuse to pay $100k for the filter". Thanks Mclaren, my builders are being turds and wont let me make ANY changes now, not even my door knobs, they are being completely unreasonable but at least its a good lesson learnt. Thanks Echo. I have visited the site this week and all our internals are finished and it looks fabulous, the rooms look so much larger now and its nice to have a perception of where everything is. I will take more photos this Sunday the 27th and add them but this is what you missed last weekend. Our WIR is done too!! (Don't tell the BF but this is the only reason I chose this house desing) Please dont judge me. Now that it is built the entries to the WIR are a lot smaller than I anticipated.
