Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 22, 2010 1:57 pm Hi All! I have been snooping around for a while now and am very new to this sort of thing (both building and the world of forums!), but I have to say I have been inspired by what I have seen and read. My husband and I, along with our 17 month old daughter are very very close to building our dream house - the 20m Retreat Q2 (Q1 wouldn't fit!) at Flagstone. We are council approved, the builder is ready and rearing to go... we are just waiting on the bank!!! Typical though! I would appreciate any advice anyone can give. We've done what I think of as the hard work choosing colours etc. We are however looking for a concreter - have heard very good things about McGinns. Does anyone else have someone they can recommend? I will do my best to post some pics if and when I can figure out how to! I am super excited at the moment after speaking with our Builder today, fingers crossed the bank will pull their finger out and we can get this show on the road! Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 2Nov 22, 2010 3:27 pm Welcome Retreat Dreamer. Good luck with your build. I'm still working things out, but here are a couple of pics of our block of land. They were taken some time ago and yes, the grass has been mowed! Fingers crossed this works! http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9799/1383.jpg http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/9711/backur.jpg Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 4Nov 30, 2010 7:17 pm So we finally have some progress with the bank. It only took them 2 weeks from us receiving our letter of approval (the 2nd one, they stuffed up the first documents) to get our loan documents. We are hoping that the builder can start ASAP. Does anyone know someone down Jimboomba way for us to get retaining done? We have to have it done pretty soon, before they will do the slab (I think). Hopefully we can get someone b4 xmas, really want the slab down! Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 5Nov 30, 2010 7:35 pm We built the retreat at the beginning of the year at New Beith. Looking forward to watching your build. Building the Pl@ntation Retreat on 4009m2. All moved in!!!!!! I loved the Stella facade, would have been nice to have the money to get it done. We really wanted the Airlie but had some problems when we submitted it for council approval (the Airlie extended B4 by almost 1m, so would have to have engineered retaining - pricey!) and had to change the facade. Now we're doing the Maui. I really hope I'm going to like it! Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 7Dec 01, 2010 7:51 pm Ok, so here is a pic of our facade and our floorplan. Seast, how did you get your images to appear instead of having to click on a url? http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/228/frontup.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/7006/houseplan.jpg Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 8Dec 01, 2010 7:58 pm looks a lovely spot, and the plan..yummo! on image shack, if there is a 'code for forums/ message boards' copy that code ONLY and click reply to this post and just put that CODE only on the email then click submit. the photo should then appear good luck Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 10Dec 02, 2010 7:10 pm Yay, it works. Thanks so much guys! I really do love our house. It's funny, we weren't even thinking about building (ok, it was always a dream but never thought it would be a reality) when we went and looked at some display homes and I fell in love with it straight away. Let's hope I can do it some justice! Here's a sneak peak into our colour scheme! Here is a pic of our kitchen colours. I loved it too, but have had plenty of people warning me against light coloured stone benchtops. I can't wait to start either, although this rain isn't helping! We have a medium colour (Sahara I think) in our bathrooms and they are no different to the Avalanche. I just wipe mine and dry with a microfibre cloth from woolies to dry them. I've just had people say that the lighter colours are more prone to discolouration - you spend so much on getting things right you don't want to have it looking messy. I've never worried too much, I want it so I'm prepared to look after it. Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 16Dec 05, 2010 3:38 pm Welcome! We are renting at Flagstone while we build at Teviot Downs (also not far away). It is lovely out here! As for your retaining question, depends what you are after but Designer Driveways does rock retaining walls for $250 per face metre which I thought was pretty reasonable. We are getting 20m x 0.5 m high and it is costing $2500. We couldn't even do it ourselves with Besser blocks for that price! Your colours look lovely. I hope you have a smooth, easy build! Thanks for the welcome Emma, I am indeed feeling very welcome! Thanks also for the tip about the retaining. I will chase it up, maybe kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get them to do the driveway too! We went for a drive out to our block this afternoon only to find the builder has put their sign up! Yay! I feel like there has actually been some progress!!!!!! Bring on the next week (please, pretty please let the rain ease up!) Re: Our dream house in Flagstone 18Dec 05, 2010 10:31 pm Great choices Retreat. Love the Egyptian gold splashback. Bring on the next week (please, pretty please let the rain ease up!) Yay for progress!!! It is amazing how quickly it happens. Our friend is building with your builder on the block behind ours. They seem to do a great job!! Designer Driveways are doing our ashpalt driveway as well. If you ask the guy he will give you addresses of places he has done. There are a couple near our house and he does a really neat job and it seems to look very well compacted and just a good job overall. Sooooo much cheaper than concrete too! We have about 300 sq m required so it made a big difference to us. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23616 "Losers" "humanity" "off time" "your" "top notch" "love symbol" Sounds like ponzo is done using other people's toilets 37 23729 |
