Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 20, 2010 12:50 pm We are hoping to build a 2 story, 5 bedroom, small pool on a slightly sloping corner block. We have a budget of $450,00 and have meet with 4 design/builders so far - 2 of which have said $450,000 is not viable. We believe if we design the house with the budget in mind & understand the major costs & materials we can do it. Any advice on realistically building to budget ? How to pick a good designer/ builder? Any other advice ? Advice given is general and obviously cant take into account all of your needs and your specific requirements. I suggest you seek professional advice before making a decision. Need to remove a massive gum tree first (proving frustrating due to the branches being near powerlines and trying to get correct information from Engerex & arborists). After the gum tree removal (which needs to go so we can remove the old house which we are actually selling we hope and it is diseased and keeps dropping branches) it is a site survey and then ideally finding a designer/builder team that will work with the materials we have in mind (my husband is an engineer and I worked in marketing in an eco construction company in the UK) Re: New build in Indooroopilly, Queensland - advice apprecia 4Jan 15, 2012 1:47 pm If your building on a sloping block this might be the sort of thing that your after. http://www.wisteriahomes.com.au/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=90:251-portland its easy enough to change the front view to make it look like a queenslander if thats what your after. Re: New build in Indooroopilly, Queensland - advice apprecia 5Feb 07, 2012 12:23 pm Hi there, we're in the process of having some quotes done for our build on our sloping block in Mitchelton. We're dealing with Adenbrook Homes (Brisbane North) at the moment and so far we're having a good experience with them, and they are willing to alter their designs to accommodate sloping blocks. They may be willing to source the materials you want to use? It seems that most builders will charge you for sourcing materials other than what they usually build with. Good luck with it! Glad to hear that you're pressing ahead with your project after the floods. Re: New build in Indooroopilly, Queensland - advice apprecia 6Feb 07, 2012 4:13 pm We are almost finished a build at Graceville. We were badly damaged by the flood so tore down old (but beautiful) house and decided to rebuild above flood height. After speaking to so many misinformed and rather over priced builders (there's nothing like the word 'flood' to jack up the price!) we found IDH Homes. They fully understood the brief and the budget and have been a joy to work with. Highly reccomended. We ended up getting more house for the money even after changes and upgrades. 1 10488 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
