Thanks for your help! Lot 306 Re: Urbanedge homes? 3Nov 22, 2010 7:28 pm Hi lot 306. We are building with Urbanedge and we have just finished our colour appointment with them and due to have our tender appointment in a couple of weeks. So I cant say im happy with the finished product. We got to the initial deposit stage with two other builders and ended up getting it back as the upgrades were adding way too much to the end cost. We found so far they are extremely helpful and not just the sales person. They were very up front with the costs of everything and the costs were reasonable. One big cost difference was they calculate the slope over the building envelope not the whole block as some others do. We have a 700mm fall from one corner to the other, but were the house is, its only 300mm which is within their 500mm allowance. We did have an extra cost for the temp fence but told us straight away what it would be exactly. We didnt make many changes mostly cosmetics and the prices difference was huge, the other builder we looked at was $395 for an internal door and frame, urbanedge was $145. We also changed our standard 1.8m door on the alfresco to a big 3.5m door for $685. The only things we upgraded at the colour app was the toilet, the kitchen tap and bigger tiles on the floor. Most of the standard stuff was a good range and suited our personal tastes. We didnt upgrade the front door as it was ridiculously priced and we can get a nice one from somewhere else for way less. Our land was due to be settled in December, no wait, January, no hang on its now Febuary, lol. So we over estimated and said end of march. We did have to pay an extra $2500 to hold the price, but if it does go over that then we do have to pay more. Re: Urbanedge homes? 5Nov 23, 2010 10:13 pm we got our site costs capped at $9500, with $600 allowance (the only one) to do the survey pegs again if they get stolen. We are building in Melton. I've looked at the product review website and slightly concerned however most people don't bother signing up to things to post positive reviews! Just to vent. First time buyer / builder and looking for some advise or suggestions around builders - looking for 3-4 b/rooms (or 3+study or cinema), 2 car, alfresco if possible with decent inclusions and no crazy hidden costs! House size between 17-22 squares. Re: Urbanedge homes? 9Nov 28, 2010 12:38 pm Hi smokey, All builders have pros and cons. My husband and I went to DFH and R!vergum and go to the stage of putting the deposits down, if UE wasnt as good we would probably would of stayed with DFH. For us UE fitted us, but i have heard that costs do get more when you start changing things in the plans. To save arguments we decided that when looking at plans if one of us didnt like it then we wouldnt consider it and we had to have the bedroom/living areas on a certain side. We seemed to be looking for a similar house to you. But there heaps of builders that fitted what we needed. Go and have a look and ask for Les, he will help you. Re: Urbanedge homes? 15Nov 07, 2012 4:13 pm tsurf read what the product review website has to say about them. I usually look up builders on there. people generally only post when they have had a bad experience, far less often with a good experience. Consider that when looking at online reviews Re: Urbanedge homes? 16Nov 08, 2012 1:37 pm I disagree Bizcan, most people only go on and on about a builder (or any service or product) when things go wrong, only then are we prepared to listen to them. the minute someone praises a builder/service/product/company, we start to wonder if the comment has been placed by a person who works for that said company or "makes looking after mates".. and your comment is proof of that.. i think the negative feedback always outweighs the positive ones, but more often than not, the reason people are unhappy is because they had different expectations to the realities of builds... and not quite understanding the full process.. Now im not saying everyone who has a bad experience is because its out of high expectation or that their dispointment is invalid but i think a lot of complaints is because of unrealistic expectations.. sorry i've gone off topic abit... unfortuntely i've not built with urban edge so i can not comment on their service but in all honesty the key to a successful/pleasant build is actually the people you deal with like the admins and Site supervisors more than the company itself which is why different people have different experiences with the same company.
