Did/do you drop of tempting treats for your construction workers when you visit your block? What did you make/provide? Were they well received? Re: Treats for the builders 2Nov 17, 2010 5:31 pm I dropped off a box of icypoles on a 40 degree day. They went down well. Only for the chippys though. They were the only tradies who took their tops off Re: Treats for the builders 3Nov 17, 2010 5:36 pm We haven't started yet but I plan to! The build is between home and my daughters new school, so we'll be in the area, driving past 4 times a day, I figure if I come bearing food they are less likely to get annoyed at me my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Treats for the builders 4Nov 17, 2010 5:41 pm A slab and a bottle of Scotch for the brickies and a slab for the chippies. Both did me favours and helped me out. I bought lunch (pies) a couple of times for the tradies that were there at the time, can't remember who. Terrence Malick Re: Treats for the builders 5Nov 17, 2010 6:36 pm I've received.. coffee, cakes, chocolate, beer, wine, breakfast, lunch and dinner (home made and taken out), massage voucher, art, a helicopter flight, a day cruise in the bay, the keys to a beach side holiday home (that was 6 yrs ago and I still use the house), ...that's all I can think of atm ...it's nice to be offered something, even if it's just water ..the act of giving speaks volumes about the person/s you're dealing with. I feel fortunate to have wonderful clients. As a builder we do gifts for a subbies every couple of months with sunscreen, stubby holders, hats, shirts, sundowners, prizes etc and we get some great feedback from it. It's our way of appreciating their loyalty and letting them know how grateful we are for the work they put in. I also encourage clients to go visit the subbies who are building their home as it gives them a better appreciation of the process, and usually makes them feel more comfortable about the overall project. Alcohol is a good one but be wary of people knocking off too early or working under the influence as some builders will get a bit stroppy about it. Morning tea whether it be slice or a cake always goes down well. We had one client cook a BBQ in the back of his ute one afternoon and was a great hit. Look at your bill from the electricity company. It should detail the charges. You will need to do some estimating and some calculations.
