Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 17, 2010 10:43 am We are hopefully going to start build a new home in Perth, we have signed a preliminary contract but that was 17 weeks ago, after being promised that we would have the plans and contract in 8 to 10 weeks, is this normal or should we be concerned ? At this stage I will not name the builder but they are new and in the northern suburbs of Perth. Re: Hopefully building a new home in Perth soon 2Nov 18, 2010 2:20 pm i have a feeling we have the same builder. 16 weeks when promised 8-10. given 'short staffed' as a reason for the delay. on the other hand if you havn't made lots of changes it should be less time Re: Hopefully building a new home in Perth soon 3Nov 18, 2010 2:24 pm Not Wangara is it? If it is taking that long just to sign final contract then I can't imagine how ling everything else would take. We were given the excuse that some staff were moved on and that has caused the delay, NOT OUR PROBLEM. I think we have been extremly patient through the process, Block 05/10; NEW BUILDER 23/11/10; Work draw 22/12/10; 2 Shire 17/01/11; PreStart 7/2, Council approval 11/2, 3/3 sign again, Slab 29/03, Bricks 29/4; Roof on 16/05. Our site supervisor (J) was lovely and so was our first pre-start administrator (S and C), and the accounts people were quick and also very friendly to deal with (M and A). The house was of great quality (from slab to practical completion in 5 months) from what our BHIS inspector told us, they do have quality workmanship even if the head office is 'non responsive'. The only thing that let down unfortunately was our new pre-start girl who had the worst customer service in history, just about undid all the lovely efforts by the rest of the staff >=( if we do have the same builder just hang in there mate. You may find the root of all your grief is one person talking cr@p and losing their way rather than the company as a whole being lost. Re: Hopefully building a new home in Perth soon 7Nov 25, 2010 4:50 pm Well, we received our plans (which were delivered to the wrong house in our street) earlier this week, then advised that the contract is available if I wanted to pick it up from the office on Tuesday this week. Wife and I have decided to give this builder a wide berth and have spoken to another builder who could not beleive the time it has taken to get to this stage. 18 weeks So here we go again but we have already had a few promises to make it a lot quicker for us. We have not contacted the original builder, I was going to wait to see how long it takes them to contact us re the signing of the contract. I was also told that the manager was going to ring me last Friday to appologise for the delay, Still waiting !!!! We will see what they offer when they call. Re: Hopefully building a new home in Perth soon 8Jun 14, 2011 10:05 pm I have to say I am pretty happy with what is happening now, overall with our build. Just some questions re pipe damage - How often does the access pipe in the slab for the toilet and the drain get crushed by the guy with the forklift dropping a pallet of bricks on it? It is totally flattened and I can see cracks way below the slab level. (I haven't seen another pipe damaged, in all the homes being built around our area, and I have been really looking since it happened to ours.) How do they ensure it is fixed properly and all damage is repaired as it is surrounded by the slab thickness. And what other sorts of problems can occur due to this? I have had one person say they had one that leaked into the slab and worked its way up into the wardrobe, and its still in not fixed properly. How do I make sure this isn't going to happen in this case. And I have had another person (he is a brickie) tell me "I wouldn't want it to be my house!" I am a great believer in preventative is better than cure, but if we have to cure, please lets' get it right and not have to revisit this. I am afraid that they will stick in a piece of pipe, use a bit of glue and then toilet fixture will be just stuck over the hole and it will not be fix properly. Or the fixing will be temporary only. This happened weeks ago and if I had seen a repair done back then I might have more faith that it will fixed properly. Feedback would be welcomed by anyone. Our bricks got delivered last week and it seems like the guys dropping the bricks off have snapped a few of our pipes on the slab. I too would like to know if this will be a problem? Re: Hopefully building a new home in Perth soon 10Jul 04, 2011 10:18 am Hi Agent123, We have spoken to our Supervisor and he assures us that it will not be a problem. Apparently the plumber has to install a pan connector which is glued inside the pipe through the slab. Apparently it is a common thing that happens when the bricks are delivered the pipe can get hit or bricks dropped on it. It would be nice to think the delivery guys took a bit more care, but as I have said to my wife it is not our house yet so it is the builders problem.
